Need solutions to thinning in locs
Dread Maintenance
.....okay the beginning of your reply (the tone of it rather) left a little to be desired... but that's all right :-Di meant "done locs" as in i started and twisted and kept up and groomed other ppls'. i started with who was then my bf/1st. i did not have locs then myself but i was in sole charge of his.i generally twist and palm roll my own. i do not allow other ppl to touch my hair, in general, except my bf (not the same guy, but he'll be the last and only)mine are not short but they're not lonnnnnnnng either... i'll take some pics soon to show. my longest ones are kind of in my armpit and down my back some.... like i said, not long really but definitely not short either. i'd say a little longer than medium length.and i dont use exposed rubber but i do use ponytail-holders from time to time. i've pretty much stopped doing that. i know it wears and tears on your hair, no matter if it's locked or not.... especially black hair (as in hair texture of black ppl)but yeah... i spoke with one of my fave professors who has really long locs and she helped me fix them so i wouldn't have to just cut those ends off.i'll definitely try the bead/peyote thing. that might make me start another conversation about hair adornmentsbut that last option you gave for the embroidery and threading was exactly the answer i was looking for. and you explained it perfectly well. i'm going to try that.... i'll put up pics as well, like i said beforethankx so much luv :-D soaringeagle said:
well how long are they..you ssaay you "done locs for years" whats thswt meean
locks are grown not done
if you mean crochet thsat can definately be the cause
over twisting palm rolling or any type odf maintenance too what do u do to yours
i have had that issie in a couple, but from dragging on the ground and being stepped ojn and eventualy i have lost 8 inches to a foot off most
but thats due to length
if its happening in short dreads its most likely from abuse ..which tying em back can be if u use a tight elastic
ok solutions
some tie a knot in the arewa..which can help but can cause a weak spot
u can add a bead or peyote stitch maybe
but i have a feeling the best idea might be (comming up with this off the top of my head)
this may be hard to explain..
push the lower part up so the thin spot doubles over and the thicker parts are touching or close to touching
then do a few inches of embroidery thread wrapping around the area (3 or so, an inch 1/2 above and below should hold it securely)
when u wash it ..bend the wrapped areas ..they'll evenhtualy soften up becomming more flexible so the hair within will be able to move and dread up and kinda fuse together
this is a theory but it should do the trick
now what did u do to "do" your dreads and what maintenance ..and how do u tie em back
if we stop the cause they should recover
