Magic locking gel Bucks County Soap Co for starting dreads.

Introduce Yourself

That's a good idea. Trying different things can help other folks starting their journeys. You can never have too much information or too many ideas. More information makes it easier to work through too many ideas :-)

I have two new tnr dreads now since I separated one yesterday. I was planning on using the locking gel on those two so I could document the difference. It would be interesting to see what kind of results it makes on different heads.

Quick question- this locking gel states residue free and helps to hair to lock more quickly. Would you add this to your hair as you were doing the twist and rip (assume this method for this question). Would it work to add a LITTLE bit to hair then twist and rip? Can you only use it afterward to put on the sectioned and palm rolled baby dread? Thanks

Dreads from braided extensions

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Thanks so much, everyone! A dreading party sounds pretty cool. I can't say that I have any friends with braiding experience but maybe I can get a good braided to section and rubber and the sections and have a twist n rip party!I think I might experiment with a few braids and see if my idea works at all. It may be a total bust but a few braids -> dread with the extension hair ate worth a try to see if it works at all. I'd like to keep track of my journey.I have been very lucky with my braids and no damage. Noam shedding is scary tho, no doubt.I like the idea of dreading hair and adding a loose extension. I really think my sections are too small. I think the twist and rip or even back combing might just take it out at the root since it is so small. I will try taking out some braids, combining the sections, and twisting the sections to start the dread.I guess life is an experiment :-)*hugs*

Dreads from braided extensions

Oh, ok! That all makes sense. I was not clear with my braider and she made them smaller than I expected. My fault :-)Hmmm I had planned to unbraiding the hair and twist and rip the portion that was in the braid into a dreadlock. I would separate the bits at the scalp to keep the locks separate. I know what you mean about the scalp mat-yikes!!Is there a way to make open-ended dreads using human extensions? I like the way they look and it would allow me to keep length while the dreads form.Thank you do much for the ideas!

Yeah, that is why I was wondering if my idea would work, I would have dreads starting naturally and could incorporate the braided hair into it by taking put the braid and dreading it. Once it had some length I might get rid of the extension if I wanted and have the all natural dreads left. I was in an accident years ago and lost most of my hair. It was very traumatic for me For personal reasons, I would like to maintain some length.

No, my job would not say "you have a hairstyle that is not traditional and we are letting you go". They cannot do that. They can, however decide to fabricate a "reason" other than that to avoid controversy. Companies do it all the time. I live is an "open door employment" state (PA). Any employer can let anyone go for any (or no) reason. I am hoping to find a balance between my person choice and the engineering world.

Thanks foe the insight! It is a lot to think about.

Dreads from braided extensions

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Hello, all!I am just starting to dread. I have worn braids on and off for years and love them! I always wanted to try dreads.I really want to have open-ended small dreads. My work is trying to figure out if they can make me get rid of my braids. I figure dreads would be really pushing it, but open-ended dreads would allow me to "corporatize" then with a wide headband or whatever.I have searching for weeks for ideas, methods, etc. I just had my hair braided. They are almost micro-sized open ended braids. They are extended with human hair. I have silky straight Scandinavian hair.I wanted to keep my braids in until they begin to dread. Then, I hoped to unplait the braids *almost* to the end (1/4" away) and then twist and rip the the first 5" of my hair. Essentially, I would be making a dread out of the previously braided portion. I would leave the long ends open. This would allow me to keeps length. For personal reasons I very much want my hair long.My (likely dumb) questions are:Will this work? Will the dreaded old braid+extension dread section be noticeably fatter than the new natural "only my hair" dread section? The braids are 3 equal size strands; 2 strands extension 1 strand my own.Is there a way to create dreads and dread extensions at the same time? I guess I mean is there a way to incorporate extension hair into the start of a dreadlock instead of dreading the natural hair and later crocheting or sewing a dread extension?Sorry for all the crazy and probably dumb questions. Thank up all so much!!!! I love reading all the ideas.Jenifer
