How does one go about joining a nudist community? I've always wanted to most of my life. I don't even know if there are any near me :/

Lemon juice, Sea salt and such...

Dread Maintenance

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with detailed instructions on how to properly use lemon juice on my dreads or sea salt sprays? I am not sure if i am going to do it because i might want to stay as natural as possible but if i do go ahead and give it a shot i want to be sure i do it correctly. Thank you much ^_^

dreadlocks changing more than your hair

General Talk

I feel my dreads have made me more peaceful. I dont know how or why. perhaps its because thru my dreads i found this site, all these wonderful people, new friends, a new lifestyle, all new things that seem to cater to how i really feel on the inside. while i believe i may have become slightly obsessed with my dreads(im sure the effect will wear off) i dont believe ive let them come to define me. it's more like they've opened a doorway. but what do i know. that's just how i feel

I am honestly proud to be a hippie. I dont use it to define myself. It just so happens that i fall into that catagory. It doesnt make me better or worse. I just am. It sounds to me like you are on an amazing path and heck as long as people arent giving you crap for it or using it in a mean way i would say embrace it.

Why Dreadlocks?

General Talk

I honestly started them because i have always been somewhat of a hippie. A very peaceful, layed back go with the flow type of person. But i dress very up tight, my hair was always done all nice and neat, my make up perfect. And one day i thought "what the fuck?" I want to reflect how i feel on the inside on the outside. I wanted to change my look to fit my personality. A new wardrobe takes months to accumulate, alone with allthe fixins. I wanted something faster and more personal so i thought well shit, DREADS! i always kinda wanted them. At first i was going to go to a salon holy shit am i glad i didnt. I used a small amount of backcoming ( my friend half assed it) and TnR. NOw some of them are coming out and i have loose hair and some are already locking up. It's a wild mane and i love it. Every day i wake up and feel my dreads for changes and congos ( i already have 3!) and it makes me so happy. I thought they were just a semi tedious, long winded hairstyle but they are so much more. i LOVE them and actually look at them and think they are genuinely beautiful. I love going through the pictures on this site and looking at other peoples dreads also. They feel so homey and nice. Like a big mamas hug. That's my dread story, well the beginning anyways

we all shaved or started over dreadheadhq/knottyboy dreads the right way, wonder why?

Dreading Methods

I almost started my dreads with disaster like many others. I went out bought wax, a crochet hook and a comb to backcomb. All because my friend told me to and i hadnt seen anything about natural dreads yet. i didnt even know they existed. But i thought about the wax and decided i didnt really want it, too gooey and slimey. I couldnt imagine what it would do to my skin at night. So i took back the wax. My hair was originally backcombed but my friend half assed it so they fell out immediately. So i took them out all the way and used TnR to make some pretty lil dreads. Now i have loose hairs galore, loops and bumps but i know that my hair is healthier and my dreads will be to.
