bronners is fine if you don't have hard water. bs/acv is also an option but again works best without hard water. you can get a filter for your shower head or boil your water if you like.

you never had to do anything to dread your hair, it just happens when you don't brush & it helps to have the right washing routine. the hair will knot on it's own if you let it.

separating is just pulling the dreads apart from one another if two are trying to congo into one. if you want fatties (which require some special care) you can let them congo up & get bigger, if not separate more often to keep them as they are.

wow.. is there any alternative to www.dreadlockshampoo.com , andI though bronners was a good option for dreads, what other options for shampoos or soaps do i have?

Help! Save My Dreads

loose hair is perfectly fine, it happens in all methods. over time most of them will take care of themselves & find their place. because you had backcombing & crochet that breaks a lot of hair so you may have extra loose things sticking up because of that, but time will take care of it & they will work into the dread. just wash & separate as needed & they do the rest!

No progress

Dreading Methods

some journeys are longer than others. keep on going & they will do what they need to in time <3 even to family they didn't realize i hadn't combed it when i was months in, it stayed smooth & silky & looking brushed for a while. they do catch on tho! i promise ;) give them love & time!

I know I am only a month in and I don't expect dreads yet or even knots but when I say no progress I mean no separation, nothing at all. When I look at most timelines after a few days you see something. Like I said I have no urge to twist n rip I will just keep going on, thanks for the responses. If you saw my hair you wouldn't know I haven't combed it.

Hello! I'm Seneca

Introduce Yourself

if your hair is like that than natural will probably take right off for you! starter methods only sets the blueprint for sectioning anyways, if you have a tender head you may want to just avoid messing with methods.

congrats on the pregnancy & the beginning of your dread journey. I'm a SAHM to a 4 year old & 19 month old girls & our 3rd babe will be arriving sometime this month ;) forget about what your mom says, you are an adult & can make your own choices, if you want to doll them up some you can throw in beads & wraps for decoration (I still have to fend off my own mother as well, it's bothersome isn't it?)

you can dye dreads, a lot of people prefer to use henna so it's safer on the hair (but careful on baby dreads because it's conditioning). you just would "paint" the outside of the dread & NOT squeeze any into them, rinse rinse rinse, & i know if you are bleaching you would only want to rebleach the new growth.

Perhaps, but I thought that was bad for hair? I was gonna just do it naturally but we could if you think it'll help. I gotta admit tho, I'm tender headed(another reason I never brush really) If you could see my hair right now, you would laugh your ass off dude. I'm not joking, I look like albert einstein most of the time. no joke

tnr does break hair, but just not nearly as much as other methods. & natural is defined as "Existing in or caused by nature; not made or caused by humankind"

Niesje Sigrid said:

Nah it's not bad for your hair. Its the safest starter method and tnr dreads are still considered natural, just not free form.

Tell me about your Dread Decorations?

Introduce Yourself

i have lots of little baubles & dangly bits I change in & out, have been wanting to throw them in lately but i've been too lazy lol. the little crochet mirrors in my fav. colors were from a swap on here, Practical Bren made them for me <3 she also gave me the purple shell & amethyst. the glass beads I picked up from a shop in the square downtown here, & I've sent one off to Britany. the flat white shell is from a decoration on a candle that my MIL gave me. the flat metal piece & bead & the shell are from a broken bracelet & anklet from high school. the other beads are just random pieces picked up from craft stores, & i wrap with embroidery thread or hemp. once i stop being lazy & decorate again i'll post more photos, i think i have more pieces to add now ;)
