Combining Neglect/TnR?

Dreading Methods

I'll probably end up just having like 4-5 friends do one a piece and letting the rest grow naturally.

I want them to be able to point to ones on my head and go "I did that one!"

It sounds like fun

Combining Neglect/TnR?

Dreading Methods

Well it's mostly just a genetics thing. Everyone on my mom's side of the family has greasy and shiny hair because of the Mediterranean blood in us.

Any time I go more than one day without washing it flattens, gets really greasy and shiny, and looks as though I've been combing this whole time.

I wash my hair differently than I did before I started. I don't run my fingers through my hair, I only wash the roots and just with residue-free shampoo, and I blow-dry my hair.

I also use a spray on it (pretty religiously, I might add) and it doesn't seem to be doing much.

Now, I'm not expecting dreads so early in the game, but it should still be getting more dried out than this.

Combining Neglect/TnR?

Dreading Methods

Would it look weird if I combined Twist n Rip method with Neglect?

I've been neglecting my hair for almost a month now and I miss not having a dread party where my friends got to contribute and make dreads for me.

If I only did some dreads and let the rest grow naturally do you think that would look really...off?

I feel like it would look like I got lazy in the middle of dreading my hair because my hair is pretty naturally greasy so having some really nappy locks in the midst of the rest of it would be unusual.

Thanks,

-Beorc

The Hippie Heathen

Introduce Yourself

Hello all,

My name is Beorc (that's my chosen name, not my birth name) and I am going to start dreading my hair fairly soon. I asked my sister for a dreadlock kit from dreadheadhq.com, but I was hesitant to jump right in and use it.

I've recently began converting to organic things in my life (food, toiletries, etc) and as such I've heard a lot of the flak that dreadlock companies have been receiving. I saw a video by a girl on Youtube who had a link to this site in the video description so I thought I would check it out.

I became instantly interested in the natural/neglect method for dreads (especially since I have ADHD and anything that requires me to neglect something is right up my alley haha), but I am somewhat confused as to how I should start this process.

The other methods have a very set starting point such as backcombing or braiding or twisting, but I guess I just missed what the one for the natural method is.

I'm looking for some advice and to make some dreaded friends as well!

Wassail,

Beorc

I want natural dreads but need them tidy....?

Dreading Methods

Maybe a spray made of salt water combined with some essential oils would help?

I made one today for starting my dreadlock journey that has Rosemary, Peppermint, and Tea Tree oils in it.

Dreading Methods

I would say try just letting them go and only washing/separating them for a few weeks. If they don't seem to be changing you might have to comb them out and start over.
