Beggining and i have some questions

Introduce Yourself

Peace,

I don't feel that wearing a ball cap would necessarily be BAD for the dreading process, but I would also say that you would want your to to hang loose more times than not. Hair needs to move around in order to knot so freedom is important. They do however make hats for us dreadies known as "Tams" and theyre cool hats that come in a bunch of sizes, materials, and colors! Wool is preferable and can even help the dreading process. As far as your soap is concerned, you were smart to read the ingredients, many products out there claim to be "natural" simply because thee are no legality issues around using that time and acting in accordance with it. If your just starting out I would recommend a Baking Soda rinse. Use about 1/2 cup of baking soda in a 1gallon pitcher mix it up and pour it over your head, allow it to soak while you continue to wash the rest of your body then rinse out, let dry, let knoT! Also try to wear your hair down while drying and not to go to bed or wear a hat until the drying is complete!

Mass Congoes, what to do?

HaHaHa, Yikes is correct :/ Valerie, it is only about the bottom two inches, the roots are the only parts that are really connected as of now, but they are pretty stuck together. at my next wash I will try some of the suggestions though!

Mass Congoes, what to do?

Dread Maintenance

Peace friends,

I've been dreading a little over 10 months now. Most of my dreads are moderate in width but towards the back side of my head I have a collection of about 6-8 dreads that are locking up at this one massive root, Im down with fat locks but this almost looks closer to a uni-dread hahaha, any tips on seperation or how to prevent??

Do the loose hairs really dread up on their own??!

Dread Maintenance

also, I can vouche, over the past 9 months I have had moments of anxiety only to be relieved that the hairs inevitably dreaded, but loose hairs are part of the process, and you will ALWAYS have some here and there, trying to get rid of them is fighting the natural process and kind of defeating the whole idea of having locks I personally dig the messiness, you learn to after a while.

Peace, They ABSOLUTELY will dread, but in time... depending on you're hair type that will determine how long this process takes,My hair is straight/wavy and takes a bit longer than say someone with naturally curly hair. But providing you keep washing with the right things and let them hang loose and play a lot you couldnt stop them from dreading if you tried!! Patience is key my friend, let time take hold and so will your loose hairs :p

Dr.Bronners and suggestions about how to use it, any?

Dread Maintenance

Peace friends,

Recently purchased Dr.Bronners 18-1 Hemp Peppermint Castile Soap(liquid). Prior to now I have been using the BS wash, about half cup mixed into a 1gallon pitcher. I have found that while the wash is effective it's still leaves my hair with a kinda funky scent, I'm a frequent Gym goer so sweat is a friend of mine, I'm hoping the new peppermint soap will help with the scent. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to perhaps mix the Bronner's with BS? and if so what ratio?

Thanks!

Questions about Dread Tams Beneficial or Detrimental for still maturing dreads?

Introduce Yourself

Peace friends, I've been on my journey now for a little over half a year my dreads are about shoulder length now and have have gained a fair bit of firmness to them. I have just recently started putting them up when driving etc. so as to not impair my vision however, most headbands cant seem to handle them I've tried simple elastics to special "non-slip" headbands they hold but not for very long. I have been considering dread tams but I understand that it is recommended to allow them to hang free as much as possible, so my question here is do you feel that it would be good, bad, or just fine to start using a tam in these situations?

thank you!

Love&Blessings
