Quick question about maintenance.

Dread Maintenance

It's been over the course of 13 years lol. Ive always loved them. When I was younger many mistakes were made and I went about it all wrong. But I learned from those mistakes! Then finally I decided to just let it grow quite a bit for a few years, didn't get trims or anything so because of that it knots up really easily. 😂
This time they're here to stay. It sucks brushing them out so I've just fully committed.

Lol! I can imagine that would have been a weird time. 😂 There was lots of big hairstyles during those years.
Your dreadlocks have been a huge inspiration to me for yearrrrs. I just love them.

Shea Moisture shampoo?

Dread Products

Yes! There's people out there that despite all my efforts to convince them, still swear by the wax. It's mostly the people who have the really polished looking hair, they aren't really in it for the Long haul so they only care about how they look right this moment and not about the future of their hair.
I'm all about being as real as possible with it, I love the natural look.

Quick question about maintenance.

Dread Maintenance

Exactly! That's one of the main reasons I've wanted them. It's so liberating to let my hair be free.
I've always been someone who absolutely hates brushing my hair and it would take me so long when I finally did do it. I just reached a point where I felt like I didn't need to do it anymore and I love it!

Shea Moisture shampoo?

That actually makes a lot of sense! I didn't think about it that way. That's most likely where I've read it before.

I can only imagine the wax debate! Lol I'd never even consider putting that in them, that would be a sticky disaster. I know some people swear by it, but I've seen their dreads and they don't look too happy nor healthy. 😅

Shea Moisture shampoo?

I had always thought that smell left behind from shampoo meant that it left a residue, but I would love for them to have a scent besides clean hair smell lol!
I have seen so many recommendations for dreadlocks shampoo all over the internet and I will be getting some of that to try out, especially while they're still so new.

Thank you, I really appreciate that!
That's exactly what I was wondering, I feel that shampoo I'm using now might slow it down a bit because it leaves my hair so silky afterwards. I'll experiment with different kinds and see which one works best on my hair.

So far I've had to separate pretty frequently, it doesn't take long for the loose hairs to attach way on the other side and the roots blend together if I don't do it often enough. But other than that I don't mess with them too much, it's been a great experience so far.

Thank you! Im definitely going to give up on the palm rolling. Not only is it super time consuming but you're absolutely right that it does nothing helpful lol. I'm excited to see more of the looping in time, it's so awesome to watch them form like that.😀

Introduce Yourself

So I've been aware of this site since about 2010 and have been back off and on, this is the first time I've ever joined!

I'm committed to my dreadlocks this time around, this is my 3rd or 4th set now. Each time before this I never made it past the 3 month mark, I always brushed them out and regretted it instantly. I've had such a huge love for dreadlocks and knew I should just do it. Before dreads I always left my hair down and never brushed it anyway, so it's just ideal for my lifestyle.

I've been growing my hair out for 5 years and finally am to a length where it feels right to start the journey. I started with the backcombed method, palmrolling them periodically but less often now. They're coming up on a month now and I have no regrets! Nothing but love for these babies and how far they will go in the future. My plan is to keep things as natural and healthy as I can. I love the idea of freeform/neglect but when I tried with my hair it would turn into a big matted mass in the back that I couldn't separate for anything so I gave them a little jump start. I'd like to just leave them to their own devices and let them form from here on out.

I'm happy to be a part of this site and love all the advice I've read so far in the forums. It helps tremendously.

Shea Moisture shampoo?

Dread Products

So I did some research on shampoos, and seen this one was recommended by a few people who had good luck with it .I plan on getting a different brand in the future, but this had to do for now while I wait to have money for a better one lol. Just curious to who uses this and what you guys think. I've used it twice and it's not bad, it makes my hair feel really clean, but it also leaves it feeling very soft once it dries. I also noticed it doesn't leave and smell behind so I see that as a plus. I'm not sure if it leaves a residue. The last wash I did I think I didn't rinse very well because my front bangs that are loose hair felt a little weird for a few hours. Any recommendations welcome! I'd love to try another brand just to see what it's like .
