Hello :) I'm new into dreads. Started a neglected journey 1 month ago, any tips?

Introduce Yourself

@Pedrono  Welcome from sunny SW England,  Like Eagle and the passer-lady say "its gonna get messy" (sure that was a line from a film?)

but it should be worth it and your hair has got some good ZigZaging going on already.  Be patient, separate before they get too thick and enjoy!!

Especially the strange looks you will get from folks.

Some of those litttle fellers creep up on you while you're not looking and misbehave, I've had a couple that I tried unpicking the ends cos they balled right up and get too thick...think i used an olde knotting needle (no crotchet hooks in this house!)

Like your planting from a few weeks back, are they some kind've bean?  Love your blackening sky pic too..the grass looks really parched where you are.

Its been realy dry last month (May) and I got fed up having to water loads: rain is back and bringing slugs too...."ARRgh, leave my beans alone..slimy beasts"

@peacefulpasser  composting anything that doesn't move (Could try a neighbour or two - but that would take too long), acquired a shredder so big stuff can be mangled and rots down quicker. I still have slow log, branch piles to benefit the wildlife (be get slow worm and frogs which help keep down the slugs.

I recently cleared an olde pile out cuttings, leaves etc which left some nice compost underneath so I am hoping try and establish a "no-dig" veg bed, getting impatient for seeds to arrive by post now.  I've been scavenging on my rounds lately; found some good mesh netting to keep birds off seed beds and too some old Agapanthus roots away that someone was taking to dump....

Love your homemade masks, your kids look happy in them.  We have some at work, I will use if situations are desperate.

TnR Question

General Questions

@ Soaringeagle  totally with you on the non-uniform look of nature, give me the woods anyday, or the moors, beach, marshes etc.

I would love to have my own woods to hideaway on especially with the current state the world is in, guess I'll make do with my little garden of sanity, which is far from uniform and not quite anarchy, but the birds and bees like it and me too.

@lunakat13 I get people staring funny at my hair from afar and smile at them cos they need it; we are a funny olde species.  I find myself judging folks by their looks/tatoos/music taste etc,  then step back and kick my own ass for being so stupid, just take folks as they are, not as you think they are.(hope that makes sense) .  I see one or two lovely looking dreadheads and wander how they started dreadlife, were all different, like some animals too.

CORONAVIRUS  - hows everyone coping?

@Tashtash - sorry to hijack your thread but can't a new post to work for some reason

"Hi all you locked down dread folk..hanging onto this crazy olde rock spinning in space,  hope the current Coronavirus pandemic isn't affecting anyone too badly.

UK has gone full lockdown, only emergency, essential services peoples working. Everyone else stay at home apart from essential journeys; Im kind of glad to be working (Postal deliveries) to pass the time. At least the weather is stuck in a dry spell (its been one of the wettest winters on record) wich is better than being cold and wet..

Im lucky to have garden and I'm hoping to use some space for veggies to save relying on shops.. anyone else got any growing tips?

@ soaringeagle - hows your "grow your own" project working out?

Meanwhile. back at the dreads - someone at work tried telling me i Should tie my hair up due to covid19 "it was on google" hahaha.  My hair is like

quarter- third way dreaded (pics will follow dreckly ) and making some weird and wonderful shapes.

Stay safe everyone, keep smiling and look after the less fortunate

Passing time while isolating

Hi all you locked down dread folk..hanging onto this crazy olde rock spinning in space,  hope the current Coronavirus pandemic isn't affecting anyone too badly.

I'm still working (essential delivery driver) but getting more done on days off.  Uk is currently having a dry spell so I've been

enjoying my garden and preparing to plant Veg and some flowers with the help of my trusty hound.

Anyone got any positive thoughts on covid19?

- world pollution has decreased

- people are uniting to help the sick and elderly

- hopefully the human race, ( especially   the world leaders) will learn something valuable from it.

@Soaringeagle - hope your "grow your own" food scheme is working out, please feel free to pass on any growing tips..

Stay safe everyone,.
