Washing more frequently okay?

General Questions

Yeah, if your hair gets oily easily, definitely wash more often. I had the same problem the first few weeks, and just switching from twice a week to three times a week made a lot of difference. Remember that you don't have to worry about wet dreads until you actually have thick dreads that hold lots of moisture ;D

Dread-related dreams

General Talk

So I'm only 1 month into natural dreading, but I've already had 2 dreams in which I accidentally brushed out my hair. My mom joked that this is going to be my stress dream from now on XDHas anyone else had any interesting dreadlock dreams?

Very cool! Dread timelines are my favorite, and it's hard to find people who did it without any back combing or tnr or anything. Good job being so patient! :D

How do I figure out where to put beads in hair that is still straight?

Dread Accessories

So, I just started natural dreading a few days ago and I have read some stuff about beads being good for helping the process along. I want to try it, but it occurred to me that putting beads in my hair (which is still pretty straight with no dreads yet) would basically be like sectioning it, so I was wondering if I need to make sure the locks of hair I choose are a certain size and shape at the roots, or if it's fine to just put them in willy-nilly?

Hello, there! Starting my first dreads the natural way :)

Introduce Yourself

Thanks, Dragonfly! I took a look at your photos. Yours seem to be going well :) I'll admit, it's only a couple days in, and I'm already having to remind myself that it's going to take a while. Luckily I like that "messy hair" look anyway, so that helps a bit XD

Hi! Welcome to the family! :) Looking forward to watching your journey progress! :)

I started the natural process seven months ago! You'll hear it all the time, but patience, patience, patience! Just when you start to doubt, you'll see your baby dreads morph a little more. I promise. It's happened to me a few times already. :)

Happy Dreading!

Hello, there! Starting my first dreads the natural way :)

Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone, I'm Laura and I just decided yesterday that I want to start some dreads. I've always admired the look of dreadlocks (I think that Disney's Tarzan movie might have had something to do with it XD ) and after seeing a lot of women lately with absolutely beautiful dreadlocks, I figured it's time to start my own.I've been doing a lot of research into dreadlocks care, etc., and this site has already been super helpful, and helped convince me that natural dreading is the way to go.I just posted my first pictures. It's only day one, so my hair is still pretty silky. I'm a little anxious about whether the process will be faster or slower for me, but, again, the info here has helped ease my mind a bit.I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions in the coming months, but for now I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi! :D
