Dyed hair and dreads

Hello!! I just joined this site today after looking through it a few times on my phone. I haven't started dreading yet. I'd still like to get some more info on what method would be best for me. My hair is really dry from dying it so much.. so I'm really afraid to do the backcombing, in fear i'd hurt my hair more than it already has been through. I just washed my hair about an hour ago and I was wondering if this would be a good time to start the neglecting? lol. I figure that might be the safest bet. It's just that my hair tends to get really wavy and kinda curly once it dries, so I don't know if it would actually dread itself in time or just get all tangled into a giant mess I'd have to deal with later.. any input?

I haven't started mine yet. Still looking into methods. I'd love to see dreads that are 2-3 weeks.
