Back combing is fine, but does cause some significant damage. Keep in mind that even with a starter method, it will take about a year to mature. Starter methods don't "create" locks. They just set up a blueprint for where your sections will form

Welcome. Hopefully you didn't use wax or crochet, too. A lot of people just say back combing, but mean they used the whole "knotty boy" process
