General Questions

oh wow. thanks for that answer. i am going to let my hair Congo when it is long enough. it will be the greatest journey.

The downside overpower the awesome look I think.

They are super heavy and put strain and stress on the roots of the hair and the scalp. Those people prone to headaches or migraines can't do these.

Congos take sometimes days to dry, depending on their thickness. Normal fatties can take up to 36 hours to dry. So the chances are higher for mold to set in if you do not fully dry the dreads in between washes.

But as I said, they do look wicked.....

General Questions

Does there happen to be a downside to Congos?

the Barrellady said:

Those dreads are certainly unique. They are formed by many dreads joining together. This is called Congos. In one of the photos, I think the first, you can see his dreads on the left near bottom has so many little dreads sticking out at the very bottom of the huge dread. If you don't separate your sections, this is what eventually happens. so how do you obtain them??? don't separate.

Peace

yea ive been seperating them. and on the back of my head towards my neck i have a couple already locking at the tip.

hell yea..but

it looks like your hair may have a tendency to matt up into a "hair helmet" all 1 dread matted at the roots

so be sure to watch out and seperate

but your off to a great start

oh forsure thanks

Glad to hear, then you should be fine, and now educated too! That head of yours looks like it was meant for dreads. Don't be surprised if you need to separate joining sections every day with that wild hair. If you need to do it twice a day in the beginning because of all the curls, then do it however many times you need to as it is harder to separate a huge area that matted together. After awhile, you won't have to do it as often....Peace

yea i kept washing with really hot water and dish soap.

wow, that is curly hair. What did you use to get the wax out? It will take more than one application to get it all out. Read Baba Fats wax removal steps here; http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/wax-removal-7

The best ways would be for the Wax B Gone, but there are other methods with home recipes. Good luck & Peace.

Ohhh ok forsure! thank you.

You actually pour the mixture onto your scalp. Here is the recipe: Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with 5 cups water and pour DIRECTLY onto your scalp.... Let it sit for 10-20 minutes...then rinse it out well. Next you will mix 1 capful of apple cider vinegar to 5 cups water...pour on head and rinse within one minute. For the first time, I suggest a deep cleanse, so leave the BS on for 20 minutes.

There are a couple of ways to remove wax. The first one is for Wax B Gone:

Read the answer by Baba Fats to this post: this is for using Dawn Dish Soap for wax removal

thanks. and every sunday ive been filling my bathtub with water and some baking soda then soaking my hair for 10-12 minutes then rinsing my hair filling my bathtub with water and some ACV and rinsing. but idk how to tell if the wax is out.

the Barrellady said:

Looks like you have scalp buildup. But did you get out the wax and gels used when you started? For the scalp, use baking soda /ACV rinse to exfoliate the scalp. Here is a link for that.

You have a mix of African American/Mexican textured hair, so hopefully another member with the same texture will help you out some more.
