How should I wash my hair when I'm trying to go natural and get dreadlocks?

My hair is starting to knot up a little. I can feel it. My hair is also looking a lot better. When I wash my hair, I use warm water or hot water and I scratch my scalp.Is that correct? Or should I use cold or cool water and massage my scalp everyday?

If you are having major flake issue....then cool to cold...but personally I wash with hot....it is too damn cold to wash in cold!!! I do not have a problem with flakes...but even if I did ...it is too damn cold for cold water!!!!!!!! I would deal with flakes!!!

Alright thanks you guys. So do I massage the scalp or scratch it when I wash it?
