My Introduction and a Question :)

So I'm Bonnie, 23 from Ireland. I've had dreadlocks for about a year and a half. They were put in with the crochet hook, with two follow up maintenance sessions - and yes, I know NOW how bad the crochet hook is so I've vowed to just leave them alone and let them do their own thing.

I got them because I love dreadlocks, and frankly, I never knew what to do with my hair. As a child I grew my hair incredibly long, during my teenage years I had a mohawk, which I then cut off at 17 - I was devastated but I didn't think I'd ever get a job with it. Between then and now I changed hairstyles so much and could never find one that fit so I just let it grow and did nothing with it until it got insanely long again. Then it came to me. Dreadlocks. Besides my mohawk, I've never been happier with a hairstyle, I feel it's me and I love them.

So, here's the question part. The day before my dreadlocks were put in with the hook, I got an undercut, for those who don't know what that is, I've included a picture below :). I've decided to grow the back out and dread it, and since I've thrown away the hook, I was wondering what to do. I know about neglecting them and letting them do their own thing in the very beginning, thing is, I'm quite OCD so I need some form of sectioning or I'll go crazy at night that I'll have one huge one and tiny little ones or something.

This was taken not too long after they were put in, possibly even the same day.

I sort of imagine that leaving the crocheted ones alone now and they'll grow out to look like the others will look, or so I'll be hoping :)

Hm...it will be a slllllowww process, but it will help you build patience -- trust me. :) I would say...let the back grow out several inches and, if it's not completely dreaded and still bothering you by then, twist and rip a few dreads in. No method of dread installation is completely "safe" for your hair, but the TnR method is the least damaging, if that makes sense. BTW, I think your hair looks *epic* in your picture. Love dreadhawks/similar hairstyles; they're some of the most daring 'dos out there.

Thank you :) I've actually been growing out the undercut for the last, lets say 6 months? So on top I have dreads and all underneath I have just regular hair down to the base of my neck, it looks kind of weird and it's pretty annoying. I plan on keeping the sides shaved - I need help with that though, it's hard to do an even cut on your own head, more so when I have to make a completely new line, where with the dreads the line was already there for me so it was no problem.

I'll take your advise, truth be told though, since I started growing the undercut out, I stopped brushing and I use the same shampoo on the sides that I do for my dreads, which is really just BS and ACV. It doesn't help that I've naturally silky hair, or so I've been told. Most hair styles fall out pretty quickly for me buns or pigtails and such.
