Dreadlockshampoo.com locking gel question... and a comment...

So I received my container of locking gel from dreadlockshampoo.com yesterday... put it on my baby dreads last night, but felt the need to wash my hair this morning since I finished T&Ring my hair yesterday and I hadn't washed since Sunday. So in the meantime while I'm looking like a drowned rat I was wondering. Should I use the locking gel EVERY day, even between washes? Or should I only use it after I wash my hair?

Thoughts on the smell of the locking gel:

Now I as a general rule since my son was born don't use much of anything that has scent to it, even to the extent that I use Charlie's Laundry Detergent which leaves NO smell on our clothing. I considered that when I bought the Karma instead of the unscented locking gel. I figured since it was mostly natural, and everything that is in it that smell IS natural, I'd be okay... however... I DESPISE licorice.. It just so happens that organic licorice root in the 4th item on the list of ingredients and also the first of anything that has any smell to it, so I'm assuming that there is more licorice root in it than any other "smelly" ingredient, and its the first thing I smell. It hasn't and won't stop me from using Karma, and if you can get past the licorice smell you'll be fine. The undertones to it are very pleasant actually! As far as I'm concerned for my own personal use its a damn shame that there's licorice root in it, but when it comes down to it its really whatever, I'm still going to use the product.
I do like how it made my hair feel, nice and soft. I only used a tiny tiny bit per dread and feel that I got good coverage. She was a sweetheart and sent me a sample of her bar soap Dragon's Blood, and also was nice enough to put a note on the packing slip making sure I knew that the bar soap was for more mature dreads. Maybe down the road I'll try it out sometime, too bad I'm going to have to wait so long until I can try it though :)

Thanks SE... I'll use it a bit here and there then... my husband said he hates the smell of it and its stuck in his nose today... guess its a good thing I don't have to use it forever then :)
Thanks for the advice, I didn't want to use it every day and have some crazy buildup happening that would work against the process :)

I'm planning on trying out this gel too but the main reason I'm commenting is because I love your avitar, what a cute little wrapee. My son is in a rucksack right now while I rock back and forth surfing, lol.

Cheers

The smell doesn't seem to bother me as much now after using it for the last week, I've gotten used to it. It has helped me control my crazy frizzies, but I'm not so sure I'm actually seeing a difference with how its working because I don't have a comparison for what would be happening if I weren't using it... I think I'll use this container of it up and probly not bother with getting more of it. Unless maybe I get the unscented to use on my hair just when I want to smooth stuff out for special occasions.

I am liking using it on them all because its stopping more of my T&R from coming out, I haven't redone it for awhile and pretty much figured now that I have the sections of just letting them do what they are going to do instead of constantly T&Ring them as they unravel a little bit... Figured I'd let them be and see what we see

and on another note, I was redoing a couple dreads towards my neck because they had come almost all the way out, I got to one of them and twisted it and it didn't rip apart so I left it. And the two that I did end up redoing were much scratchier and loopy than the rest of my head, so yes... something must be working since they are just over a week old.
