Beads or other Dreadlock jewelry

I have a few baby dreads that i want to apply beads to but is there a length that i should get two before adding beads? is there a certain kind of bead i should use?

if its got a hole it will be good

tho too long of beads dont allow drying inside the bead and cayse yucky mold

but the beads woulkd have to be like an inch long to do that
