Try salt water spray or swimming in the sea as that can really help with locking up - also putting dome beads in seems to help for some reason - where in UK are you Barney? I too am in UK - lots of sea salt and wind seems to be working for me

I'm pretty sure my water is hard here. So that could be the route of my problems. I'll look into alternative soaps available here. Thanks for all you replys! This place is great!

What may I ask, Does the hard water do to your hair/dreads?

well technicaly it will make true soaps hard to rinse leaving lots of residues cause the soaps wont rinse away

detergents will rinse detergents were invented to deal with the problem of hard water not rinsing soaps

but then there is a type hard water that will carode pipes too destroying plumbing its based on mineral content i believe
