question about keeping dreads from combining

what can i to keep my dreads from ataching to other dreads

take the two dreads that are being combined togeather and "rip" or pull them apart...

exactly just pull em in oposite directions toll all the connecting hairs disconnect

is there a way to combine two smaller dreadlocks into a single one?I was looking at a tutorial online telling me to sew the two dreads together, then pull out the thread after they've had a few washes, to help them combine faster?anyone know of any good methods? or heard anything bad about this sewing technique? I want my dreads to be a little bit thickerthanks
