I finally decided to make the commitment and take the journey. I've wanted to have dreads since I was in high school but before now, I've never had the discipline, the determination or the "guts". I went to Camp Zoe in Salem, MO for Spookstock 8, this past October and something changed in me... I've decided that I am 26 and that if I don't do this now, I may never do it, which is unacceptable for me.The last time a brush or comb touched my hair was on January 25th, which I know is a very short time, but for me it seems like forever, cause I'm major OCD about brushing and running my fingers thru my hair when it's not tied back. So, I've been kinda half and half as far as how my dreads are coming together... I'm partially going for the neglect method, but also a tiny bit of twist and rip and gentle palm rolling in the front (to partially satisfy my own need to touch my hair, lol)... As of right now, I've got twelve distinguishable dreads happening :) and a bunch more going that haven't quite gotten that far...They seem to be coming along nicely thus far although I'm having issues with washing... A friend who has AMAZING dreads, gave me some "Knotty Boy all purpose" soap/shampoo, which is what I've been washing my head with, but it seems like (even using "flat palms" and holding my hair up when I rinse it to avoid straightening out with the rinse water) a good deal of the "neglected" progress unravels/unknots/smooths out somewhere between entering the shower and finishing up... I know that the natural progression is usually a slow one, but also, I don't want to backpedal every time I decide I want to be clean.. Any suggestions there? Also, my hair is baby fine, pretty straight and naturally pretty dry and brittle. I've always had trouble with breakage and damage happening very easily and had to use very heavy conditioners to keep my hair healthy. I've noticed that the dreads that I've got forming and the "regular hair" that I still have are dry and coarse and my scalp is rather itchy... What should I do about moisturizing or whatnot to keep everything happy and healthy? Thanks in advance everyone! Have a grateful day!
