'Twist and Lock' product

Dread Products

I used twist and lock gel two or three times, during my first month... all it seemed to do was get my dreads all gel'ly... it dried pretty quickly, just like gel and then it was like nothing got used at all... and when I cut my dreads about three weeks ago, when I inspected the insides of them and it didn't look like there was any residue in them at all... just a bit of lint here and there... so, I'd say you can use it, sparingly, without any problems, but without any real help, either.

Recipe for BS&ACV please!?

Dread Products

well, you must be doing something differently because it doesn't leave my hair slippery and it didn't make my dreads fall apart when they were forming.. I've used this same mixture from about two weeks into my dreading and I'm 8mos23days in, now. My dreads are soft and feel good and my scalp is healthy. or, if you'd like here is the even stronger recipe that SE suggests http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/super-clean-dreads-safe-for#axzz12mRUtFuK

so i understand that but those are for mature dreads.

that many oils is insane anyways

any more than 3 drops total and that sits around on my scalp and hair no matter how much i rinse. can't possibly be good for dreads when it makes your hair slippery.

Recipe for BS&ACV please!?

Dread Products

ok well what I have written here is almost the exact same thing as what is written in the dread washing guide's baking soda deep cleanse, except I actually use LESS oils than SE recommends. http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/super-clean-dreads-safe-for#axzz12mRUtFuK

Omg Tammikins there are WAYYYY too many oils in those instructions...

that ratio actually caused my initial dreads to come undone almost instantly

there should be no more than 3 drops of essential oils total for baby dreads. plus a lot of essential oils out there are for aromatherapy which is more concentrated.

Innocent Dreadie Harassed By The Cops... Excuse my language, please...

Life Issues Facing Dreads

So today, I got pulled over in Fort Myers, Florida, supposedly for expired license plates on my car. The registration sticker clearly said 09/10 and so did the registration papers. The cop who pulled me over asked me to step out of the car and come over and talk to him and then within about a minute and a half, two more cops pulled up, both of which were K-9 units. They asked me what I was doing in Florida and I told them I was here with a friend on vacation for a few weeks, which was the complete truth. He asked me if I had any guns, drugs or large amounts of currency in the car and if I was responsible for everything in the vehicle. I told him there was nothing in the car, which again, was the truth. He proceeded to ask me if they could search the vehicle and I declined, because shit man, I didn't do anything wrong and they had no reason to pull me over. When I said no, they pulled one of the dogs out of the patrol unit and walked it around the car. He walked the dog around the car twice, and the dog didn't do anything that I could tell, but of course, they said it made a hit on something. When I asked why the dog didn't scratch or bark or anything like that, he said it was because they trained the dog to be passive. Hmm... Sounds like a load of passive bullshit (or in this case, dogshit) to me... So, of course because they claimed that the dog made a hit, two of the cops went ahead and started tearing my car apart from top to bottom. Now, mind you, I'm on a three week vacation to Florida and as soon as I'm done here, I'm going on a camping trip in Missouri, so there is a LOT of shit in my car... They took off door panels, tore the dash apart, unzipped the upholstery on the seats, dug under the hood, sifted through each and every piece of paper and trash, every bag and box and every fucking crack and crevice they could get into, took all the shit out of my center console and glove box, went through each and every piece of everything they possibly could, in search of something that just wasn't there... I've got dreadlocks, a bunch of tattoos (one on my wrist, being a GD Stealie) and a lot of stickers on the back glass of my car, and also IL plates. I've never been arrested, never been in trouble, never been harassed by the cops for anything but for some reason, these mother fuckers were determined that they were gonna find something... While those two fuckers were still searching my car, the one cop who wasn't, was telling me that "We're not the misdemeanor police and if it's just a joint, it'll be ok but you need to just tell us what's in the car" and that "we don't mind visitors here in Florida but we do not allow our streets and highways to be used to run drugs and weapons up and down". FUCK YOU, douchebag! So I says, "Ok, so what are you harassing me for? My record is clean, I've never been in trouble and I'd even piss clean if you tested me... Ohhh, wait... I know... It's cause of the dreads and the stickers on my car, isn't it?" Fuckface just kinda smirked and let out a tiny chuckle and said "Oh, come on now..." So after about 45 minutes of them tearing my car apart and talking shit, they decided that they were wasting time and said "We're done here, you're free to go", they all jumped in their cars and took off. No names given, no badge numbers given, no warnings or citations. Nothing at all... So I go back to my car and what do I find? A HUGE fucking mess... Those assholes took everything out of everywhere and left it all laying in the floorboards and/or shoved it all under the seats. My car was clean and organized when I got out of it and when I went to get back in, it looked like a fucking tornado had run through it... Ugh... I always knew I didn't like police, but I never had a real reason why. Like I said, I've never been in trouble for anything and never been fucked with before, but man, now I know why I and so many other people hate fucking pigs. Prejudice bastards who think they know all and are above the law... So yeah... that was my lovely Wednesday afternoon in sunny Florida... FUCK Florida.

how do you sleep with twist and rip dreads?

General Talk

You really don't need to sleep with or even use rubberbands at all. I haven't used them at all. Sleeping in a tam helps but that's not necessary either. When you get up in the morning, separate your sections and babies and just go... Now that the weather is nice, ride with the windows down in your car when you're driving... lots of knots get in there with all the wind... Patience...

Washing - counterproductive?

Dread Maintenance

When I was starting out I also noticed that washing was somewhat counterproductive. Here's what I started doing to make sure that washing my dreads didn't undo my progress and it's worked well... One thing I do while I'm in the shower is to kind of ball up and hold on to my dreads while the water is running through them, so the running water doesn't smooth them out and undo any knots... Also, when I'm finished with the BS/ACV and I'm rinsing with clear water, I rub my scalp and my roots with the palms of my hands really lightly... It helps to make sure you rinse everything all the way out and also helps knot things up a little more (for me, anyways). After I'm all rinsed out, I squeeze my dreads with a towel to get water out of them and then I flip my head over and rub my roots and scalp lightly with the towel. Again, this helps knot things up a little (for me). After that, just separate your sections and babies and leave em alone til it's time to wash again... Welcome, patience and good luck :)
