Welcome. My video will give you an idea of what palm rolling will do. But root rubbing is something entirely different. What it does is rips apart the hairs directly at your scalp. This makes your locks extremely weak and brittle. Plus you're essentially rubbing a brillo pad against your scalp. This can cause irritation and sores to form your your scalp. And no one wants an open wound festering under a dreadlock

Welcome to the community Corey and to the best site on the web for dreadlocks. Glad you joined us now to save you from the future damage of rubbing your dreads. Check out Baba Fats video and what happen to his dread from palm rolling: http://www.dreadlockssite.com/video/why-not-to-palm-roll

The baking soda wash & ACV rinse works fantastic, I used that for my entire first year. http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/ratios-baking-soda-wash-apple-cider-vinegar-rinse-sea-salt-mix?page=1&commentId=3754945%3AComment%3A1706638&x=1#3754945Comment1706638

Below is a map of your water type, if you have hard water you should do one of two things to mix the baking soda with: purchase a jug of water form the store (I use a water cooler size) or you can boil your tap water. Just let the minerals settle down to the bottom after you turn of the stove, then pour out the water not getting any of the mineral in it. (I'm just too lazy for that method)

Many dread shampoos and bars do not work well with hard water, like Dr.Bronners, as they leave behind a residue that build up slowly over time, they just don't work right. The best shampoo or bars for hard water (any type in fact) is from www.dreadlockshampoo.com . The creator of the dread products is also a member on this site!

Have a fantastic journey.....peace
