I saw your post. There's nothing wrong with having locks started. But using wax will actually prevent them from actually maturing. Wax sticks your hair together like glue. It hols down loose hair and prevents loops and tangles from forming. This in turn stops them from locking.
Hairs do tangle around the wax, but this just makes the wax get sucked deeper inside the core of your lock. And because wax is a hydrocarbon, it NEVER washes out in normal soap and water. It needs a detergent to get it out.
Wax being in your hair long term will cause problems later on. It traps moisture, which festers in your hair and creates a swampy environment where hair starts to degrade and rot. There are ways to kill the mold. But it's always better to not let it start growing first.
Not to mention that wax is sticky. dirt, lint, random fibers will get stuck to your hair and will be harder to get out
You can have clean looking sections without using wax/gels. Just separate them into the sections you want and keep separating them back when they start to congo again
Welcome. What do you teach? My wife teaches High school, so I am very interested in the education system. It's good you stopped palm rolling, it can only lead to problems down the line
