As far as the palm rolling, frequency, pressure, rotation, etc are all a factor. And then the why. I palm roll once in 6 months after a shower gently, for about 5 seconds to encourage the loose hair bumps in. It worked great on a bunch and did nothing on others. I am a fan of the whole free thing, but at the same time I am not a fan of the zig zags and bumps of unknotted hair in a rope of dread. But these things are only happening it the last inch of my hair with parts that are just now getting locked up. When I do it I pay attention to the roots, if I can feel the hair pull, or any tension in the roots I know I am doing it way too hard. But again, I waited 6 months before I even did it. And it has been a week and they have lasted three showers, rain, the beach and the pool. But hair texture plays a part as well.

Welcome. But That shampoo is not good for locks. It contains too many conditioners and residues. Plus palm rolling destroys locks. If you don't do it much, it doesn't do anything to create lasting knots. if you do it enough to see progress, it severely destroys your roots. I did it for only 2 weeks in the beginning, and 7 years later I'm still trying to fix the damage:
