All right so, I am still in highschool and I have gotten SOOOO many questions on my dreads. Since they are about 2 weeks old almost they are really starting to form. which is great! But alot of people especially girls at my school ask me the same question over and over again.."ew,do you wash your hair?!" -___- this is getting frustrating, especially explaining that its good to wash your dreads and hair needs to be clean to properly dread. I have pretty much just started not worrying about this, but whats really getting under my skin is the really really..ummm..how do i say "preppy?" girls at my school trying to say that i am unclean and what not, im letting it go, though be accused of being "dirty" is not much fun.
I swear by these! I am posting a link to show you, but you can generally find these even in drug stores. They help itch, massage and stimulate your scalp without messing up your dreads as long as you don't go crazy with it. ; ) Make sure the ends of the wires are smooth with no barbs as to not catch on your dreads. I checked them out in the store to make sure. They have heavy duty ones, which I don't recommend because the wires are thicker. The cheap small ones with thin wires are the best! You will be very happy to have this around! Enjoy!

So hello, I am new and i just have a few questions and such, to get started my dreads are now a week and 4 days old the majority of them anyway, and i was just wondering if it was okay for them to be getting a little loose? and if its not how can i tighten them without using a crochet hook, or if they will just naturally do the tightening, also i did not section my dreads i just went all out and random with them, but they seem to be doing okay. What i did and what i am planning to do is first to start them i did the twist and rip and added some rubber bands and i have decided to let them take over from there on, the only thing i do really is wash them and spray some sea salt water on them, do you think thats good enough? I dont pom roll them because i kind of want them to get a little loopy and crazy, can this affect my dreads negitivly? and last but not least i have alot of layers and have decided only to do the long layers witch give me 15 dreads in all, the person that cut my hair chopped it all off so now i only have a little long hairs but i have been debating weather or not to do the top layer because im scared of them sticking out really horribly does anyone have any advice? thank you -kayla
hey guys im away from home and i havent washed my dreads in a week and a couple of days and i was wondering if i can wash mny hair with regular shampoo or bar soap or what? please help! :O but ive also had them for just about 2 months sooo yeaaaaaaa please help!
Well, my backcombed dreads made it a yr and still look shitty! Maybe it's because they were backcombed and waxed!? Anywho, I used some lemon oil, orange oil and Dawn dish soap but still think it's still in there! Been just letting them do their thing but they seem to be twisting not dreading at my roots. Maybe they'll start looking better in another yr!?!
Well Hello all,
I started dreading about a year and a half ago. I used the backcombing method to do my dreads. Because I got really impatient with my dreads not maturing, I combed them out. Now, I have decided to re-dread. I backcombed in my dreads about 3 weeks ago. I've been using Dr. Bronner's bar soap as shampoo. Although I am very curious about this baking soda+AVC that I have seen mentioned...? If anyone has info on that, I would be interested. Also, I would love to use essential oils if anyone could suggest a good method of using those. My mom and I are very much into essential oils and natural remedies, etc. I have read online that rinsing your dreads with a saltwater solution will help them dread...is there any truth to this? There are so many more questions I could ask, but I will stop here for now. Any information would be much appreciated
