Welcome. But you can't get locks "put in", exactly. You can have them started with TnR or back combing, but in both cases, they will unravel and fall apart in the first few washes. No matter how you start, it takes about a full year for locks to mature.

So how were you planning on getting them started? If at a salon, like Barrellady said, they will use wax and possible interlocking, or crocheting. Wax completely prevents locks from maturing, and leads to mold/mildew and eventually the rotting off of your hair. Crocheting delays progress by up to 6 months just from the first session. And it weakens your hair tremendously. Enough so, that after a few sessions, your locks can become so weak that a slight tug can snap them in places. Eventually weakening them enough that they break under their own weight.

He probably does the twist & rip method or backcombing them. Just make sure he puts no additives of any sort in your hair though, once they are in it is lengthy to get out. Glad your friends turned out, it is rare to find a person to do them properly....all the best...bet you are excited...Peace

That is really strange...how will the fellow be doing your dreads all natural? Natural dreads are done by nature, they do it all on their own...I think this guy is bullshitting you. If you throw away your brush, and never brush your hair again, you will grow natural dreads. That is the only way they are natural.

Hi Sarah, welcome to the community of healthy dreadlocks, the best site on the web. Are you going to a salon to get them done? They will be palm rolled? That means that wax will be added to your hair. Wax and crochet hooks are the two most damaging things that can be done to you. Wax holds in pockets of water causing mold, wax melts staining clothes and pillow cases, wax causes many to break out with acne. Even used once will never allow dreads to mature, they will always be just hair glued together.

I bet you want beautiful dreads that can last you a lifetime, if so, please read the dreaducation section at the top of the site to learn how you can grow healthy dreads. It is as simple as throwing away the brush and then having patience.

DREADS ARE FREE DREADS ARE CLEAN DREADS CAN BE GROWN WITH LOVE

Peace
