Kaitlyn, I met up with a Jamaican lady at an exhibit show I was a vendor at, she was selling Black Soap Liquid and insisted that it was good for my forming dreads. Should have saved my $35 because it is not good for Caucasian hair, too conditioning. So just because they are Jamaican does not mean they don't want your money only. Jamaican, Caucasian, whatever.....they almost all want to make a buck from uneducated people....Peace

Unfortunately, you shouldn't trust her. She's destroying your locks, and charging you for it. Crochet hooks are the second worst thing fr your locks. They are even worse than wax. Every time you put the hook through your locks, it rips hundreds of hairs. And when you pull it back out, it rips hundreds more. Because of this ripping, more of those loose, frizzy hairs you want "fixed", are created, causing you to "need" them fixed again and again. If you left them alone, those frizzies would get sucked in by themselves, and your locks would tight naturally. This process delays progress by about 6 months, just from 1 session. It will delay progress by over a year for multiple sessions.

If you only want locks for a few years, it's fine. But if you are thinking about keeping your locks for life, consider that continuing seeing her will cause them to snap off from light tugs, over time. And eventually they won't be able to support their own weight, and just start dropping off.

Welcome. What exactly is done to your locks?

Salons are notorious for destroying locks. They just aren't generally taught how to grow healthy locks in school. So it's not 100% their fault.

But if we can knot what she does, then we may be able to help you better than she does, without charging you a dime.

Welcome to the community fellow Canuck...Hope we get to see a picture of your three year old dreads soon. I am also assuming that you have the lady use a crochet hook to tidy your dreads. I just wanted to let you know that if you want dreads for life, then you really should stop having a hook used in them because it breaks the hairs in little pieces and the locks no longer have full length strength. Soaring Eagle has heard so many stories of peoples dreads breaking off because because of the thousands of tiny pieces.

I know that method keeps them tidy for you, but just wanted you to be aware of what happens down the road. If you don't want your dreads for life, then carry on and no worries. If you do want them for life, just ask for help here.

Dreads are beautiful, we hate to see when someone unexpectedly looses them and only mean well when we mention what can happen....Peace and enjoy the site

welcome but whats this lady do to "work on them" you should not ever let asnyone work on them they dont need work and all work is bad for them

if crochet they are being destroyed

if interlocking ..be prepared to be bald

etc etc every single thing she could be doing to them sgyhouldnt ever be done

so we need to know exact details of what shes been sdoing so we can save them
