What are your reasons for Dreading?

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I also didn't have a real reason for dreadlocks. At first, I just knew i'd always wanted them and thought they looked amazing. Then, once I had them, I realized it truly is a battle of letting go, of accepting self. When I would go online and read how people felt changed spiritually, I would raise my eyebrows, but now, after only four months, i'm beginning to feel a change...I don't know what it is, but I feel a deeper peace inside than I have in a long time, like I am truly ME, and that most people just accept that, and 99% of the world doesn't even care what I do with my hair!! It is truly freeing.
Also, it helps to sort out the judgemental fools you may not be able to spot immediately, when they give you a look of disgust on the street (or at the swimming pool, as was my case today).

Crochet recovery

Dread Maintenance

Wow, I am so glad I found this thread....I am so unhappy with my crocheted dreads, they are so tight just from the one time I got them done, all I want is fat fluffy locks!! :,( I regret it so bad! They are only 4 months old though, I hope you all are right and they eventually fatten up to the root base size. I'm in this for the long haul!

veggie vegan omni ital? whats your diet and hows it relate to your dreadiness (if at all)

Dreads and Diets

I am currently a meat eater; after becoming pregnant with my daughter last year i craved meat intensely. Prior to that, I was a strict vegan for 2 years and vegetarian for 7 years. I watched an interesting documentary called 'the vegetarian myth' which may be good for those undecided. My husband is a chef, so we get all our meat locally and he butchers it himself, then we store it in our deep freeze. I have been on both sides of the fence and I have no strong feelings for either anymore, other than respect what you eat and be thankful. If anything, my dreadlocks have deepened my belief that food is not about whatever diet you choose, its about being sustainable for the planet and good for your community. :) mono-cropped soy is just as bad as factory farms, for different reasons, but all bad.
