Starting my dreads

Dreading Methods

Yeah, all i did to start is stopped combing on new years day and have washed it everyday since with only aveda. Its nearly 2 months and ive got some cravy dreading going on at the back and sides. Just be patient with it and it will dread before you know it.

Starting my dreads

Dreading Methods

Whats your hair like john, Coarse, thin, curly etc? Mine is thick and wavyish, i wash everyday with aveda shampoo and its locking up very quick, 25ish dreads already locking up nice after 7 weeks. Natural works best for me but i guess it comes down to personal choice.

Sodium Bicarbonate?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Sadly i did'nt take any pics of what was in side but as she was combing them out every one had a really tight bit which is where all the dirt and wax had built up and not shifted, even with alot of washing. I really would love to find out who thought up the whole wax, palmroll, back comb rubbish. I would bet he didnt have wax dreads!

The newbie wax trap!

Introduce Yourself

Rawsum you're awsum! Im probably going to condition the hell out of my hair and comb them out as they are probably still a wax fest and not realy that tight. May go for the twist and rip method but my hair is pretty thick and course and does like to dread up naturally.

The newbie wax trap!

Introduce Yourself

Shit! im glad i found this site, i got caught in the old wax, palm roll, back comb elastic band trap as you do, but finding this site has made me see the light you could say.Ive had my dreads about 4 months but have been using wax for about 3, it was only regular styling wax not the dread wax they say is THE thing to use so its pretty much washed out. My hair is about shoulder length with it dreads about half way to the tips and the rest just hair. Im going to just let it dread up naturally now but was wondering any tips on a good shampoo? sorry this is a bit long but i love my dreads and am very new to all this.
