Perhaps ending my journey :(

Dread Maintenance

be sure to dilute your shampoo in water. i use a squirt bottle which i fill with water and then add a few squirt of shampoo. also try adding a few drops of tea tree oil to the mix which will help cut grease and kill scalp stink. don't give up just yet. I'm sure we can help you find a shampoo that will help you combat your dandruff.

washing dreads everyday

Dread Maintenance

oh and in the beginning it's perfectly fine to wash every other day. when your dreads become more solid you should work yourself up to every 3 days or so. i know some people like to wash once a week but my scalp can't handle that so i wash every 2-3 days. just make sure your hair dries completely between washing.

washing dreads everyday

Dread Maintenance

the knotty boy shampoo is probably the reason for the itching. it's extremely drying. dreadlockshampoo.com has some wonderful shampoo bars and liquid which won't leave you itching. if you prefer a store bought shampoo i would suggest going to a health food store and looking at the organic shampoo. natures gate and kiss my face are both good brands.

Help with dandruff

Dread Maintenance

bs/acv didn't work for my dandruff either. in fact it made it worse. the dreadlock shampoo bars work quite well for me. it takes care of most of my dandruff. if you really need to use a dandruff shampoo then look for a clear one like t-gel. stay away from head and shoulders which has a bunch of conditioning ingredients which will cause knots to loosen and leave residue. always dilute a squirt or two of shampoo in a big cup or bottle of water. this will help to distribute the shampoo more evenly on your scalp plus it will reduce the likelihood of residue being left behind. i would also alternate the dandruff shampoo with a more dread friendly wash.

Dreads and Liquid dish Detergent

Dread Maintenance

dish soap is fine for removing wax or product build up but regular use will really wreck your hair. dish soap is meant to remove grease from dishes so using it on your hair will remove all oils in your hair. stripping your hair and scalp of its natural oils will cause dandruff and brittle hair. dreads should never be brittle. if you can't order shampoo from bucks county right now than get yourself to a health food store and pick up a good organic shampoo. natures gate and kiss my face make nice gentle shampoos that work well for dreadlocks.

Really really really huge dread?

Dread Maintenance

yes, they might fatten up but they might not so i wouldn't worry too much. i have all different sizes and personally i prefer my fatties vs the thin ones. I'm currently not separating to encourage more congoing for bigger dreads. they do take longer to dry but i live in sunny southern California so that hasn't been an issue for me.

loose hair

Introduce Yourself

i use to worry about the same thing but recently I've really embraced all the loose hair i have. i enjoy the mix of dreadlocks and loose hair plus it gives me softness around my face. I'm sure in time it will dread up but I'm really not concerned with it.

i personally love your fringe/bangs. I've contemplated cutting bangs but i have a horrible cowlick so i would have to style them daily. I'm way too lazy for that now. lol!
