Dreadlock removal method

Dreading Methods

Thanks for the tip. I am removing mine. I loved them but they got too heavy and I couldn't stand it anymore, always pulling on my scalp and causing horrible headaches. :( I really don't understand how people grow dreads down to their knees. I could barely hold my head up straight.

I've only removed a few of them part way. It's been two days and a lot of work, I can't even imagine how long it's going to take until I'm done.

question about shaving just the sides?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I'm in the process of undercutting mine. I didn't shave them though, I'm just pixie cutting the sides and keeping a long, swooping part on top (that can be pinned up for that retro/mohalk sort of look--if that makes sense lol). Just tying them up doesn't work. My head is miserably heavy and I can barely fit a rubber band around my bun anymore. I just need to cut off some dead weight, you know?

I realize the OP is a million years old. I just figure I'd add my two sense since I found this thread searching for side cut dreads... I think it looks really awesome so far!

Never thought I'd say this but I want more loops and bumps!

General Talk

Hi everyone! It's been a long time since I posted this discussion! My dreads are over a year old now and mostly mature. No more loops or zig zags. But I really love them! :)

loops lumps kinks and zig zags in dreadlocks

Dread Maintenance

Mine are almost at a year now, and I'm actually kind of sad because a lot of the loops and zig zags are going away as they become mature. :( I loved the loopy stage!

I get why people use wax now...

Dread Maintenance

Yes! Just leaving them alone is so nice. It's so much fun to see them change and loop up!

One of my favorite bumpy babies. I've learned to take my beads off every few days now and move them around, because I left this little jeweled bead on this dread for only a couple of weeks and the dread completely balled up beneath it and there is NO moving it now. I tried and tried and tried. Oh well, it's pretty at least. :) And my good friend gave it to me so there's sentimental value.

But yeah, if you're heading into the loopy stages of your dreads, make sure you love your beads. You could wake up one morning and find they've become permanent. :)

I can't be the only one who has this question

General Questions

I've had my dreads seven months (almost) now, and have never had a black person, or any person, say anything racist to me about them. I'm sure they are out there, I see them on youtube and what not, but that's just the internet. Most people in real life don't care how anyone else does their hair.

My dreadlocks, 6 + months. :)

Dreadlock Picture Gallery

Thanks guys, yeah it's kind of a crappy vid so you can't really tell, but they are doing good and they are finally shrinking up! I was thinking the shrinking thing was never going to happen to me, at six months it finally did though. I've lost maybe 4 inches or so from the overall length, but a few of the really twisty loopy bad boys shrank up to less than half their original size. I love watching them loop up all wild.
