Hi April. Don't worry about them fattening up. Once mature, they will be the thickness of where the section meets the scalp. Your sections will slowly zig & zag, & loop and shrink, then fatten up. It is recommended that the section at the scalp be no larger than 1 inch or a 25 cent coin. Larger sections will take longer to dry, can be more than 24 hours, and will also be heavier and pull on the scalp when long with weight.
Have strength and patience for the next few months while all the changing and dreading is happening. If you keep them clean & also separate, they will do fantastic. Peace
We all have days where we question ourselves and our motives. Your hair looks beautiful love. It is progressing exactly as it should. Ixchel is right....go look at some timelines, they will ease your mind and your fears some. Happy Dreading!!!
Mine looked similar at 2 months also! The most important thing to remember is that this is only the beginning! You have a long beautiful journey ahead of you! But for 2 months they are locking up nicely! All those loops that are forming are just little signs that your hair is working its way into being solid locks!
don't be discouraged! they WILL fatten & sort out, promise. they are going to get more messy before they get better, but it looks like since you are already getting that good looping that they are doing what they need to do. relax, enjoy, don't panic & browse through some timelines to make you feel a bit better young dreads grow into something amazing given the time.
Oi I see this pic and feel slightly discouraged, I know they're young and have a long ways to go but I really hope they fatten up and the roots and loose hairs sort themselves out.
