Welcome. It's actually healthier for your locks to have those wispy tips. What they do is give your locks an easy line for water to drip from. So when you wash them, they dry faster. Blunt tips cause water to get clogged in your locks, and become stagnant. Blunt locks can take 2-3x as long to dry. this leads to mold/mildew potential

Welcome to the community Maggie and to your wonderful dread journey.

Palm rolling does nothing, so you don't have to do that. All you need to do is wash 2-3 times a week and separate any sections that are trying to join together. You will see many changes happen to your hair over the next few months, so enjoy the ride. It may even look messy at times, but it is all part of the process of your backcombed sections turning into mature dreads. The dreaducation section near the top of the site will have tons of healthy information to help you along the way.

If you need dread shampoo, go to Dreadlocks Shampoo for the best ones around, they are made with Hard Water in mind, which many areas have, and will leave no residue behind. If you have soft water, you will have more shampoo options available to you.

Enjoy your journey.....Peace
