Day 5!

So today is the 5th official day of my dreading journey. I backcombed the first three dreads and don't plan to do the rest of my head for around 9 months or so. I plan on doing it naturally though when I do. For now, I've kind of continued to backcomb a bit. I've only washed my hair once since I started my dreads. I'm still not really exactlysure how I'm supposed to wash them. I've also got rubber bands around my roots area because I was told that would help the roots tighten faster.

I don't think theres too much maintanance I really HAVE to keep up with, if I'm right.

I'm pretty excited to really have my dreads start doing their thing. Most people that I've asked have said that dreads suit me and that they'll look really natural on me. I can't wait to really find out that this is true : )

Welcome. It's not an issue of not "having" to do maintenance. You should not do any maintenance aside from washing and separating as needed. But after 5 days, you probably don't need to start separating yet.

And of course, take the bands out. They prevent locking more than they help. And the damage that can be cause from them getting swallowed up and rot inside a lock is not worth the tiny amount of sectioning they do. If you want to keep your locks separated, use beads. Beads have a specific hole size that doesn't change. Bands tend to constrict you hair causing weak spots that can lead to them breaking off down the line. Bands also hold hair in place. That loose hair near your root is absolutely necessary for new growth to tangle on to so your locks stay a consistent size. The more you try to mess with your roots, the more you damage them which can lead to locks falling out and causing baldness

Take those rubberbands out! Baby locs need to move around to dread up and bands don't help with that one bit. Use beads if anything. Wood beads usually do the trick as they are easy to break/crack if they get interlocked in your hair overnight or in the shower.

Welcome to one of the greatest journeys you will ever encounter. :)

do not re-backcomb your only damaging them more and resetting profress to day 1

ry[ubber bands are trouble after 2 days removing them undoes knots that form arounf=d them in a week they can become swallowed or melt into a gross sticky mess or worse break into tiny peices to be lost insu]=ude them forever where they dry rot

all yiu want is ti wash

when u wasgh use the bv[bs/acv a no tpuch method or a read soap and only scrub the scalp and rinse tru your hair
