Thank you ExaltHim, I have been more so these days : ) Yes, Hippiegal. I think being inspiring role models in our old age is a great thing to strive for : ) Plus, I always knew I wouldn't be one of those old ladies with the conservative short hairdos ; )
you look so happy'] xo
Wow, wish I'd seen her. I saw an older woman with wild grey dreads outside our library a few years back, but she was walking away from me and I didn't get a good look. Thus was about the time I was beginning to get interested in dreads. I think many women approaching or in their 50s start to look for inspiring role models for a wise and elegant old age. And when we get there ourselves, hopefully we'll have the chance to pass it on, too.
Actually one of the main reasons I started my dreads now, was because I always wanted to be an old woman with dreads and I'll be 50 next year. This was after seeing this elderly woman in her 80's on an escalator in a mall with these long healthy gray dreads with all of these natural looking beads and wraps. She had it partially wrapped up and some of it down. She was the coolest woman I had ever seen and she had an elegance/wisdom about her. This was about 10 years ago. I knew at that moment that some day I would have them and I wanted them to be good and mature by the time I entered my golden years ; )
Glad hear you'll still have dreads at age ninety. Imagine how long they'll be then!
I loved all your pic's I just got done looking at them! I commented on a couple too. : ) I like that, "tough love"! I think they call that popping or ripping. That sounds about right. Yeah, even with me starting with TnR I still have to separate because the little frizzies that stick out all over mine stick to one another like cactus thorns or velcro. I do get paranoid that they will congo. I don't want that yet. When I counted 52 dreads after TnR I thought I would have had more, but I am glad I didn't. It would be a pain to have to separate more. When I'm an old, old woman I will let them congo so I won't have to separate so many. Lol!
My pics are up now. First time I've seen the back of my head since the last lot. I like looking at timeline albums, too. Best thing is, they let you see how people with dreads-to-die-for started out just as messy and ragged. The other day I had to separate two forming dreads that were starting to grow together. They made an excruciating ripping sound as I pulled them apart. Talkabout tough love! Ihad to do it or I'd have ended up with a ferry rope on the top of my head. Lol!
Lol! Hippiegal! I wouldn't expect anything less of me then being protective. That pretty much sums me up and "dreads" shouldn't change the pattern. Haha! I don't have a wool tam yet to wear to bed so my hair is just all over and if my husband lays on one of my dreads and it pulls, I get all worried he will pull out the knots. Hmmmmm, maybe that's where the dream came from? I will look for your pic's once you get them up. I am curious to see the comparison. I love looking at people's timeline albums on here too. That's where I read about peoples dreads that shrink alot. Thank you for the laugh. : )
I'll get some photos up in the next few days - when my partner has a moment to pick up the camera. I'll keep my bangs for now. Quite like the hybrid look when I've seen it on others. If I change my mind I'll let them grow and loc.
I had to smile when reading 'my hair will NOT be tamed and my curls must have their say.' Though straight, my hair always did its best to throw off a style. Like me as a kid. 'No, I WON"T eat this, wear that.'
Maybe that dream means you're being protective of your baby dreads, like a mother being wary of danger to her young.
Thank you : ) I really think it has something to do with the Dr. Bronners Tea Tree soap (super diluted) I started using after the first 4-days. It didn't start shrinking until I used this. I am washing it every 3-4 days with it and every time it shrinks up more. I have the same feeling of it being a little scary. My hair was just starting to get really long. So even though it's a good sign, I do wonder how far it will climb up and hope it doesn't turn into a "bob". The tops of the baby dreads feel heavier and bouncy/rubbery(actually kind-of fun feeling), while my ends are lighter and wispy. Hippiegal, have you taken any recent pics to compare your back to see how much it has shrunk? Are you going to keep your bangs regular? That would look so neat, like a lions mane. And Tia, you're going to have those cool straight head full of dreads, lucky duck! Hehe! I thought if I dreaded my hair that I would have straight dreads (for some reason) I realize now that my hair will NOT be tamed and my curls must have their say. Lol! Oh BTW I had a dream last night that I went to a hair salon and this guy sprayed this conditioner on my hair and combed out all my dreads and I didn't realize it until he was done. I was all bummed out. Lol! Weird ; )
