As mentioned previously the crochet method is really damaging to your hair and if you keep your locks instead of combing them out it can show damage to your locks which include breakage as well as show signs of constriction (the locks will be thinner and tighter.) If using crochet to tighten the roots it will cause them to not dreadlock on their own and when you stop it will be longer to tighten up naturally.
Since you posted that you keep combing them out, is this because you aren't ready or are you conflicted on information in regards to the locking process?
The dreaducation pages are very helpful and will detail the positive and negative effects of each locking method. Also there is a section that explains washing maintenance. Another good point of interest if the member timelines. Looking at these will give you an idea of what you have to possibly look forward to if you continue to dreadlock.
Welcome. But if you're going to crochet, you may as well use products, Products can be washed out. Crochet damage can not be completely fixed. it can only be partially fixed and that takes months of doing nothing to them
