Twist and Gel and Wax question

Introduce Yourself

Actually i said the dreads in the pic look kinda gross. They dont look clean and he has about 8 inches of new growth that isnt dreaded. Self hatred? Says the white man....I hate to break it to u but im black and proud. I wanted locs, not dreads in the traditional sense. And btw I never combed my hair; I brushed my hair, then when it was longer I picked it out. Shows how much u know about black hair.....No one asked u to babysit me or waste ur time. I've already tried to end this many times but u keep continuing. I never claimed to kno everything but do I kno more than u about locs and *blk hair? Absolutely.P.S. i haven't took the scalp pic b/c im @ wrk but ill b sure to post 1 up when I get home @ 12:30ish

Twist and Gel and Wax question

Lol Idk why ur hating. Yes, for the most part I think true "dreads" like urs do look unkempt. Although I def respect the dedication of the guy in the pic u posted the dreads look kinda gross to me. I think maintained "locs" look alot bttr.Btw don't put words in my mouth, I never said im bttr than anyone b/c I do more wrk on them. I think this is the 4th time im stating this but u still don't seem to get it; to each his/her own.

Twist and Gel and Wax question

Introduce Yourself

Ur really not going to let this go huh? If u want dreads w/ "character " go the natural route; if u want want locs that look neat and well-kept twist them w/gel (for blk/mixed hair types anyway).I don'tHAVE to wrk on my hair every week, I do it b/c I WANT them to remain looking neat and well-maintained. New growth/stray hairs @ the base of locs is not a good look for me therefore I take the appropriate measures (*for my hair type) to minimize it. If I was 100% black this wouldn't be an issue; maintenance would be alot less regular but there would still be maintenance involved.

Twist and Gel and Wax question

Yea they look *real unkempt. Lol @ compliments, point taken. What im suggesting is not dangerous, irresponsible, and wrong. It is one of the options to loc *black hair. Fyi the gel is not like wax, it is water soluble and will wash out no problem. Lol, ur suggesting my hair is not really dreaded due to the fact I use gel? That's ridiculous. Trust me, I have cut them numerous times over the years and they are def locked. Also, the twists are not hard like u think they would be. U dry twist them in btwn the time s u wash + use gel. Therefore, the hair does in fact move and it does promote locking. (I can't speak for caucasian hair tho)).

Twist and Gel and Wax question

Introduce Yourself

Well then I guess I have fake manufactured dreads according to ur standards. Its fine w/ me, that's how I like them, and from the amt of compliments I get on them other people like my "imitation " dreads too. And yes, ur dreads def do look unkempt; then again what do u expect when u do absolutely no maintenance on them? As I said before, to each his own-what works for u def doesn't wrk for me and visee versa. We're just going to have to agree to disagree....

Melanie: regarding the issue of the twist getting puffy @ the base and coming undone w/ mixed hair the key to getting them to keep their form is clips + a blwdryer. Apply the gel when the hair is damp, twist then put it in a clip. Then blowdry until the gel is dry and the hair is set. The twist will then hold up 100% better.

Twist and Gel and Wax question

If by personality and uniqueness you are referring to locs that look unkempt and have varying sizes/thicknesses then no, mine are def lacking that. If that's the look you are going for, more power to u but that doesn't work for me; I like more of a maintained look.Ill get that close-up pic uploaded tonight.

Twist and Gel and Wax question

Like I said im mixed, therefore leaving it alone will not give me the results I am looking for. you obviously have some knowledge about dreads but I think it is mostly limited to caucasian hair. If u took a look @ my pics it is obvious I know what im doing and what works best for *my hair type. No disrespect but mine look 200% better than urs. Maybe I can give u a few tips :-).

Twist and Gel and Wax question

Introduce Yourself

the high cost is exactly why i started doing my hair myself.

great point that afro and caucasian hair locks differently. that's what i think soaring eagle is forgetting. maybe the natural route is the best way to go for 100% caucasian hair but twisting is best for hair that has a lil kink to it; like i said i am 1/2 blk and 1/2 wht.....
