okay i have two rubber bands in, one at the root one at the tip. why are they no bueno?

so me and my friend each got a dreadlock about a week and a half ago and to maintain it iv been keeping it dry in the shower, andi washed it for the first time with baking soda water (it was more of a soak [idk if that was the right way but i did that anyways.]) and i also have put sea salt water on it a few times but i have some loose hairs at thetop and in the middle, will they begin to dread eventually? also are the beads prelonging the proccess? i have one at the root so i can seperate it frm my other hair so i wouldnt take out that one and also i have a rubber band at the tip because it was coming apart a tad. anyways whatchyall think, advice?. im also considering getting more after this one locks up. :>
