help meeting good peoples

General Talk

Aika, so true! I am a very quiet person, always have been and was a shy kid... it's always been hard for me finding just the right friends and being able to keep them, plus having issues with anxiety has not helped along the way... I do like the idea of trying to find potlucks and circles, at least I might have a chance of finding people into the same things as me which has always been a struggle.

my journey.

dreadlockssite appreciation

Rock on dreadie sista! I feel very similar to this, had I not begun my journey, I never would've picked up knitting to make tams or learned how to make peyote sleeves and I love doing both, so relaxing for me and I owe it all to my dreading journey :D

Have a peaceful day

Ive stumbled across the ultimate dreading shampoo!

Dreading Methods

I would love to try this, but do not want to use too much Bronner's or sea salt or water and chance wasting anything :(

Would it be possible for someone who has already mixed and tried this to come up with a written "recipe or formula" and post it here? That would be awesome!

Also, I'm curious, is this meant to be like a rinse or a cream consistency? Has anyone seen it make the hair too soft?? I've come across this unwanted outcome from using Bronner's so I've since been shying away from it, but I still need something every now and again to get rid of excess build up because the BS rinses aren't always helping in that area.

I only ever use 1/4C BS in a gallon milk jug with 2 Tbs of sea salt and fill the whole thing with water, but this seems like it is too thin of a mixture to help with residue build up and spending too much time in the shower tediously scraping at my scalp is getting very old... so would really really like to know if this helps!

Peace

Threads, Wraps, String...

Dread Maintenance

Cool that gives me a better idea on time frame and difference of what to expect with wrap type.

Thanks Lauren

Threads, Wraps, String...

Dread Maintenance

Thats what I was afraid of was being too thin, which is what I don't want since my hair already is super thin. I want to give mine every opportunity to be nice n plump.

Since I'm only at 5 weeks, I know that would def be too early... do you think like a 5 or 6 month mark would be good for my type of hair?

I'll search youtube, thanks SE

Dread Maintenance

Hellow fello dreaders,

I'm curious about the dread wrapping... I've read different discussions on here about the different types of wrapping (long term, short term, hemp, string), but I'm wondering when the acceptable time to begin doing this is without possibility of damaging dread progress... must I wait till they are full on mature??

Also, if someone could steer me in the right direction via link or video on "visual" examples of how they are done that would be super awesome.

Thanks, peace all

Starting dreadlocks from fresh but a little nervous

Dreading Methods

I think that if you are looking for a fast way, but want them to also last a long time, then you should do Twist & Rip... natural progression, sure, takes a while, but its well worth it.

I almost went with chemicals and backcombing and am so glad I didn't.... so is my wallet.

Do your research first, weigh pros and cons... the people who want to "sell" dreadlocks to you are a business and a business's main goal is to make money.

Good luck, your hair looks like it would dread quite well by the way, with either natural/neglect or with TnR.

Dread Accessories

I may be a little late here, but there is also a great side called Knitting Help and they have an infinite amount of info on knitting (which is where I picked up a lot of my self taught knowledge since I was inspired from starting dreads) and I think even some stuff on crochet, plus tons of tutorials, videos, and definitions.

Hope I'm not too late too help, good luck to you ;-)

Trading Dread Beads?

Dread Accessories

I stumbled across a Group earlier called Trade Circle .... similar to what we're talking about here, I wanted to, but didn't get to join yet, but they probably have some sort of system going on of how to trade products and beads too.

Trading Dread Beads?

And this I do agree with, if we all just shared, traded and gave willingly no one would ever go hungry, want or need... I hate money, it's what makes the world go round for so many and how it plays into greed has helped make so much of the world what it sadly is today.

I think money should be obsolete. Let's all go back to the bartering system!
