Platting in extensions?

Introduce Yourself

Hi folks sorry for being away so long. I have had my mop chopped once just fro a wedding since I posted up pics. My hair is around 3 inches long all over now. It does seem thinner with length as it always does and its hard to manage for work etc. I have a headband but dont wear it yet although Im gonna have to soon. I was considering dread extensions for a number of reasons. For the thickening aspect to my thin hair and to see if its gonna be worth the aggro of growing my hair to see if dreads are gonna work with my head of hair. I have a kind of friend who tried to platt to my hair but she seemed to think they wouldnt hold and tried out with one platt which just fell out.......its getting frustrating, Theres so much to consider and twist n rip seems more preferable to me as the back combing method im led to believe will need more length than the 3 inches I have at present. It is longer in areas but only just......3 inches is the rough length and its the longest its ever been.

Any advice gratefuly received........J

Anyone know why cold water is suggested? And why if I go for dreads they would be strong? Cant seem to get an answer...

keeping up the regime, massaging my scalp, spoke to a friend whos a hair dresser and she reckons if my hair is stressed and diffused it is possible if I treat it right that it may come back. Also Im using thickening shampoo and it seems thicker. Good diet, plenty of Vit B and zinc, regular washing and drying naturally instead of with a towel and gonna see if Dreads are possible in 3 months or so.......lemme know if anyone has answers for the unanswered questions..thanks guys...

Peace........x J

Hi, I had some questions for you Chels...But have to be friends to message. Would you accept so I can ask you what you think, I dont want to start too much friction from peoples different opinions on the thread. Im open to all ideas, natural or otherwise regarding dreads.

Cheers J

Thanks man......appreciated.

yeah Im gonna treat my hair right and see where I am in 3 months or so...Mine looks thicker shorter but I am wondering if dreads might help it look better, its the in between time of growing it and it looking so thin that bothers me.....Thanks alot, its nice to hear positive feedback, I will see how things work out.

Soooooo folks this is great, really digging the advice and support. Mixed answers on various sites but I tend to lean ont he "Sod it I will do it anyway" side. So is it recommended to start at 3 inches before dreading? I have started my regime, daily washing with veganese and massaging my noggin, Stopping hat wearing and putting in styling wax and allowing my hair the best chance......this is all I really want... a chance, if it isnt right I will go kojak stylee....no biggy!!! Just want a crack at dreads if my hair is able....

Ps ...what are Tams??? Headbands??

Thanks everyone, I really am appreciative of all the feedback. I suddenly realised this morning that over the past 30 years I have totally been responsible for this and maybe am lucky to have any hair at all. This is where you all gasp and say "Serves you right" but I stopped washing my hair with product 25 years ago as it was thin hair and shampoo made it fluffy. I had a full head but it was baby hair. i also stopped drying with a hair dryer at this time and used a rough rubbing with a towel sooooooo you can all probably summise from the past 25-30 years bahaviour that I have created my own situation. So here goes, I am washing with veganese Lush shampoo and massaging the scalp at the same time for 15 minutes a day from now on, I am drying with hair dryer and minimising hat wearing...if this doesnt help its clipper time......:)

I would rather hear 20 "No dude its game over" than have people be too polite to reply or not bother responding. If its a no go I wouldn't be offended I would just split and join a baldies site.......:)

I dont trust these brand names and reading up on them seems to put me off more, if there was a miracle cure that was affordable there'd be no bald guys right?
