how can i get the wax out without starting over? and how often should i be washing my hair at first?

I just backcombed my hair about 3 days ago i used the littlest amount of wax i could right after i backcombed and then i found this site and want to stop using wax all together but it feels like my dreads are getting too loose. what can i do to keep them nice and tight??
and also where can i get a tam for fairly cheap?
