is it normal for 1 month old backcombed dreads to not look like dreads?

Dread Maintenance

I have backcombed dreads, little over 4 months old. At first it seems like it isn't working and could be frustrating having bad hair, but just be patient and they'll lock up.

What do you wash with?

Introduce Yourself

I had trouble finding a shamppo to use, but thanks to these forums, saw someone mention tea tree tingle shampoo from trader joe's. has worked really well and will stick it with.

Hello everyone

Introduce Yourself

Hello there, I'm Eduardo, or Ed. Started my dreads about a month and a half ago. Was going to post a month ago as I had a lot of loose hairs two weeks in and worried a bit. After reading I saw it's best to just leave them alone and so far have been locking up pretty well. Here's a few photos.

Perhaps my best dread. It's the one that has been locking the fastest.

The roots are still pretty loose and I hold them with rubber bands

and perhaps my worst dread. Part of the hair is loose and wont. Im consider crocheting it in, but for now I'll leave it alone.

It's going to be a long process but I'm pretty patient.

So yeah that's a bit about my dreads. Hopefully I get to know some of you better and make some good friends here as I have on a few other forums. Thanks also to those of you that post good advice for dreads. If I haven't found this site I would've kept on using wax. I only used it like 3 times at most before reading that it's bad for you.

rubberbands???

Introduce Yourself

tSo looks like I shouldn't keep rubber bands too long then. I've kept them for like 5 days and then go like a week without any before putting in new ones. Is this ok to do? I do them at the roots so to separate the hairs.

Partial Dreadlocks

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

haha that's what I have. I saw that when I was Paris and Barcelona last summer. Another reason why I liked it. It was different.

Partial Dreadlocks

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I have partial dreads. I like how it's different from most dreads. I just have a few dreads in the back and the rest is short.

Inspired by Robin Finck xD

General Talk

I see quite a bit here at school in UC Santa Barbara. More than I expected at least, so I'm glad I'm not the only one.
