updated with some pics, it's really starting to lock up now!
hey all, i have decided to go the natural route to dreadlocks! things have started happening now so i thought i would share some pics and try to keep it updated.
wow anyway
just about when i kind of stop expecting dreads to happen "right now"
a baby dread pops up!!!
WOO! my first dread
its only small but its totally stuck together, my first real dread
amazing.
oh btw i have been getting heaps of saltwater lately, as i said i really stopped expecting them so i was just swimming and surfing a fair bit cause the water was so nice, and whaddya know!
my hair is not really dreaded yet
some days i can just see some hair sticking and clumping together real nice
but other days not so much, changes normally when it gets wet
but i just thought i would add, i think this is just normal dreading process, the other day i went for a surf and let my hair totally dry over about 3 days and some real nice clumps started popping up, and then i washed it and for a few days it didnt clump really at all
so i guess this is just the dreading process. my clumps are changing size all the time, one wash i have thick clumps, the next i have skinny ones, so just the process i guess.
but yeah, salt water can help it along a bit for sure, makes it real sticky and stuff and changes the texture and thus dread shape of your hair. interesting stuff.
i think just gotta have a bit of faith and patience for the dread process!
hi i am at almost 3 months of natural dreading.
my hair is locking up together more and more to form some definate dread shaped locks, but no real dreading yet.
well i have noticed when i go for a surf and get the salt water through my hair, it doesnt really lock up afterwards. when i wash it with baking soda it starts to lock together real fast the next day, but if i go surfing even if i have a shower afterwards it just doesnt want to lock up
so when i dont surf i am noticing some nice progression with the dreads, i can tell there are some big ones forming up too
but if the surf is really good, and i go surfing for a few days in a row, it feels like i am kind of stopping the dreading progress. i enjoy surfing, but i also enjoy watching my dreads form, so i almost feel like i shouldnt surf too much?
i was wondering if anyone had any experience with surfing and dreads??
thanks alor for any help!
check out the timeline forum and have a look at some photos of the twist and rip timelines
i have only just started my first dread journey (natural) so i cant talk from experience. though i think checking out the timelines would be helpful for you
from what i can tell the twist and rip sections will come a fair bit undone as part of the process but it can just help to "organise" the sections so to speak
awesome dreads!!!
thanks for the timeline, great inspiration!
awesome !! looks to me they are coming along real nice!!
i am at about 3.5 mnths of natural dreading. i was inspecting my hair alot at first and i would have ups and downs of progress and even backwards it can get a little disheartening.. but i just figured it might take a year, then so be it, and really just stopped caring about it and then my first baby dread just popped up. very exciting i will get some pics up today, its only very small but a real dread, still got a long way to go too!
