neglect to twist

my family is upset with my decision to go with neglect dreads. i've been doing it for about a couple months. is there a way that i can twist the neglect strands that are already started to dread?

the back and the top are coming along nice but the sides are still fairly poofy and so is the front two inches from my hair line. is there something i can do to help them along their way?
