Dreading Methods

oh yay ! thanks for all the encouragement :D ..i do look forward to see what they will do next ..it almost seemed like i just woke up one morning with mad loopiness, though they aren't all as crazy as the ones in the pictures..but they aall have a loop or two at least ..............i mostly have to pull them apart after they have dried a bit from washing..it does seem kinda like in the back there are more of them toward the nape of my neck..but i'm not sure, i can't see the back of my head too well with a mirror :P

Dreading Methods

i twistandripped my hair during the first couple weeks of october and i am thinking they are going through this whole dreading thing very quickly..it hasn't even been a full month and they are already soo wild and full of awesome loops and craziness....is that a good sign ? i haven't done anything to them since i finished putting them all in except wash them once a week with diluted dr.bronners and a lemon clarifying shampoo on my scalphow long should i expect them to be in this stage ? ..what is the next stage?thanks !

hi everyone :)

Introduce Yourself

i am definitely liking the aloe vera..i'm using it as a base for some grapefruit essential oil..not a whole lot..for my hair, a little conditioning is really just bringing my hair up to a normal/healthier state to be locked in since it's kind of on the dry side..it hasn't seemed to have any ill effects..thanks for the tip though :) i definitely plan on using the baking soda and acv rinse once i finish them all

hi everyone :)

Introduce Yourself

hi, just a quick hello from me (: ....i have been reading on this site for a couple months now and i just finally decided to join up as i have been beginning to lock up over the past few days. decided against the neglect method for myself personally and i'm predominantly using the TnR method with a little backcombing....seems like closer to the roots won't backcomb and the tip won't TnR ....so i twist and rip about 80% of a section and lightly backcomb the ends....i am not using a flea comb however, i am using an actually teasing comb with coarse bristles....no products, but think i am going to get some 100%pure food grade aloe vera gel tomorrow....i do have an aloe vera plant but i picked a few parts from it the other day and they smelled horrible! i don't really know why though bc i've used the gel straight from the plant before and it never had this odor...it was pretty grossno wax though! and i did try using dr. bronner's soap before beginning..and i did dilute it...but it left a very tacky feeling film all over my hair...so i am thinking the water is hard in my area....any other alternatives? i've been looking at lush and soaptopia..and eventually making my owni am concerned about the section sizes and how big they will get...i have read lots of answers saying they will be the thickness of the section once they are bit mature...soo..i think some of my sections are a bit too big, some being 2inches by 2 inches....will those be massive? ....there are also a lot of thinner ones...i like the mix of sizes, but i also like the fullness of having more locks than less with having all thicker sizes...i think right now there are about 42 sections...not totally concerned with a number, however...i just like the more full-looking sets i have seen......and i am just worried i can't achieve that having gone through my own little wax tragedy which looked awful and also had lots of gaps and probably only about 15 dreads...pretty awful looking, on my head anywayok..so..this wasn't quite as quick of a hello as i thought it'd be...sorry for so many questions!thank you all for providing such great info...looking forward to posting my first pics when i get them all finished up in a few days hopefully (: ..annd also looking forward to sharing my journey along the way with all you fine dready peoples

I have questions about dreadwax - yes, I'm really asking this here lol

Dread Products

SE...people have left long term relationships over dreads? that's nuts...those people who leave someone over that must have just been looking for a reason to escape..and unfortunately Knotty Jonny isn't in any legalway responsible for any mishaps he can be linked to...i guess if someone was bitter enough they could sue him..but that would just appear the same as when people sue mcdonald's for their coffee being too hotit sucks, but like in everything else...ignorance is not an excuse....it is my OWN fault that i chose to use wax 10 years ago on my first set of "dreads" ......of course i do agree with you that there are soooo many sites out there telling people they have to use wax that it is hard for, perhaps less resourceful, people to find the proper information that they need to grow healthy locksbut people being people, they will always sell snake oil, and someone will always buy it......why waste time trying to get the person to admit they are wrong...if you know the truth and are helping others to see it as well...thats the best you can do

Dread Products

i used dreadheadhq dread wax (and the lock pepper, accelerator and shampoo) and my locks were so incredibly horrible...which was devastating and pretty much kept me at a distance from realizing my dream of having my own luscious locks....that was 10 years ago....luckily now i know better and have been starting my new baby dreadies over the past few days..and i'm actually not fretting over it at all bc i know i am not using wax to start them....so all will be o-k...and even better in due time

sorry i don't have any pictures from my first set...but they didn't last longer than maybe a month

i am not 100% anti wax but I AM 100% pro not using wax ..there are no risks, so why would anyone be against it? ....with wax, you take a risk...why?
