I found a use for dread wax. :)

Dread Products

Haha. I didn't put any near the mouth, so I don't know how it tastes. And no, it's really not obnoxiously sticky. You definitely couldn't use it as an adhesive.

My pipe feels a lot less brittle now though, and the bowl doesn't feel as hot while smoking. No linseed oil here at my apartment though, so dread wax is going to have to do for now. :)

linseed oil would work better

is it sticky enough tio hang posters on a wall instead of tape?

You know that old wood pipe of yours that's been feeling a little dry and rough these days?

go ahead and give it a good waxing. It DOES feel a little sticky at first, but after a few smokes your pipe feels nice and smooth. :)

Buildup using organic soap =(

Dread Maintenance

Honestly, if you're really not upset about using commercial shampoo, I switch between Neutrogena Anti-Residue shampoo (expensive though), Prell Classic (it's green and looks like mutant jelly!) and Suave Naturals Clarifying Shampoo (which is generally under a dollar per bottle. Can't beat that.) I have a few other dready friends who use these as well who have had dreads for years and have never had buildup issues or anything related to the shampoos. I use Suave the most because it's so cheap and it smells delicious!

I will have to switch off the organic bar if this continues..yet the question is, to what? I would think the BS rinse would not be that beneficial given my hair/scalp type. The naturalmoisturizers in the bar have been good for it. Dr. Bronners i have tried to with mediocre results. Which leaves...what knotty boy shampoo? Good lord..

I got stuck on my dog's tie out...

Dread Maintenance

Hahaha. That will probably be super cool looking when that particular dread is finished maturing.

Four months of dreadlocks. Crochet Recovery

Dread Maintenance

Crocheting them back in only makes them look good for a bit, but they'll pop out again anyway. AND it gives crocheters a bad name because everyone thinks we're OCD about it to begin with.

Seriously, it sucks hearing it... But I think time is your only permanent solution. That and a little aloe gel to make them look neater in the meantime.

I promise your dreads WILL suck in the majority of those loose hairs, but you should know that you'll always have some. The only dreads I've ever seen without loose hair were super waxed. It just comes with the territory.

What are length recommendations based on?

Dreading Methods

Oh, one more thing...It seems that for most people, tnr falls out and they end up just letting their hair dread on it's own. I don't know if it will act the same with African hair types though. It seems dreading in general is trial and error for most people set on starting with a particular "method" anyway. Good luck and I hope things go smoothly for you. :)

Well you can always try twist and rip on a few sections and see if it stays. If it doesn't then you know to wait a bit until your hair gets longer. Unfortunately, I have no clue about your hair type. Hopefully someone comes along to give you a better answer! Sorry.

I would really just try it on one or two sections though. Then you'll for sure get your answer without any guessing!

thick or thin dreads for blonde hair

Dreading Methods

I think thicker dreads look better on guys, but not obnoxiously thick because as Knottysleeves said, they can be pretty heavy.

If you decide to section and backcomb, I would go with 1.5-2 inch sections. My dreads were 1 inch sections, you can see on my page how thick they are and judge from there if you want. :) In any case, all dreads look awesome so no matter what you decide, most people in this community will like them anyway! Just remember that when your dreads mature completely, they'll be about the same size as your base.

Part or no part?

Dread Maintenance

Only the bottom layers of my hair are dreaded right now and I'm considering doing the top layers too. In all previous sets, I've either had a center part or a side part, and I'm just curious how your hair is parted or if it isn't.

I knew a girl who didn't part her dreads and had one right in the middle front of her forehead that always looked a little funny to me, but it looked way better pulled back then when mine were parted.

So is your hair parted or not and if you could do something different, what would you do?
