Hi. My name is Alecs and I am a dread head.

Introduce Yourself

I started dreading via the natural method since late july 2010. All been... Ok but slow nut I do have dreads forming, counting more than 10 I their 5 months mark... However Jan 2011 I got a chance to go to Bangkok and at Khaoshan road where the back packer road is all hell broke lose..My natty dread all all forming at the back of my head (where I can feel but not see) and I wad getting kinda impatient, and there are so many places that are offering insta dreads that tempted me... So, with the devil whispering, I just went with it and settle at one of the stall and let them do their stuff.2 hours later, I was so happy that I have a headfu of dreads thou they do seems kinda maunufactured. The worst have gotta be the 3rd day... I washed my hair with baking soda, and to my horror, many strands of hair is wiggling their way off thecrocheted dreads! I went back, and was told I am suppose to have to come "repair" the dreads in order to maintain it...I am really sadden by this. Here I am, with sOme nice natty dreads but now I am stuck with really messy escaped hair (from thecrocheted locks) for a really really long time...The moral of the story is, if I am to be given another chance, I would never ever go forcrochet method... Now I am just full of regrets and hoping I do not have to shave and start all over again...

Drying of hair

Dreading Methods

Hi all! Today marks the 5th day of my journey. I have been using baking soda and apple cider vinegar, and planning to add rosemary into the concoction once I get some. My main concern is the drying of hair... I usually ruffle my hair in a towel after cleansing, but now I kinda worry that that may actually break up any dreads that are forming... so should I just wrap a towel around and no ruffle, or is ruffling ok when towel dry? Thanks for any advise ! lol another problem I am having is I keep habitually run my fingers thru my hair, but I guess I just have to make not doing that a habit instead!

My hair is EXTREMELY dry, and when I don't use conditioner after shampooing they will just all tangled up. So for people such as me, should I just go with baking soda for washing, or should I add anything into the concoction to ensure the hair will not be too dry and just break off? Due to the climate here I have to wash my hair daily (92 degree average) so I really am wondering will daily washing do to dry hair people like me

Yes I am really excited! Just paranoid of the look I may get coz when I don't condition my hair it goes really fluffy and frizzy lol. So just use baking soda as shampoo, or use that in additional to shampoo? soaringeagle said:

Introduce Yourself

I have always been wanting dreadlocks ever since I saw Lenny Kravitz when he still have his dread. Since last year I started keeping my hair longer, and recently I am really drawn to going for dreadlocks. I have shoulder length hair now, and my hair is on the dry side which will tangle sometime eventhou I use conditioner after each shower (which I kinda think will be helpful for going dread). However I have very sensitive scalp as well as dandruff so I am kinda worried regarding that too.I really like natural dreadlocks, but yet I would really love to see result quick lol. Just a quick question, if I go natural, I just need to use any shampoo that doesn't leave any residue in the hair, or do I need to use baking soda?Anyway, I am glad I found this site, and now I just need to find the determination go get dreadlocks!P/S: I would also like to find some dread heads in Singapore. ;)
