NEED EMERGENCY HELP!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

OK - SO i was supposed to be happy about my fabulous dreads - and I am - but only about 1/2 of them.

I have 1/2 head of great 3 month old dreads and a mess/knot on the other. This is the poster dread for not maintaining them properly! I have used oil, water, patience, friends, and much to my chagrin (sp?) conditioner....that was the advise of dready friend - so sad.....I DO NOT WANT TO CUT 1/2 MY HAIR OFF. Is there another way> I can handle pain -

Seperate, seperate, seperate

Dread Maintenance

OK - so I need help again!!! We have been in limbo for about 2 months now. We are finally getting settled into our house. I have been VERY bad about washing and seperating during these past several weeks. Right now - I have 1/2 head of seperated narly dreads (getting thicker - but still pretty fuzzy) - and 1/2 head of what I am affectionatly calling a beavertail!!!! Both sides were equally as bad until yesterday. I seperated the one side - and it was so painful. This side (THE BAD ONE) is much worse. I need some suggestions that DO NOT INCLUDE cutting my hair. I LOVE my dreads - even this out of control mess I have right now. So - I read SE's comment to someone about using olive oil. I am planning to do the mass seperation tonight. Any ideas before i get started? AND NO - I do not drink or medically smoke - so there will be no numbing before hand!!!GOOD SIDE

BAD SIDE

DR B's & Greasy Question

Dread Maintenance

Thanks everyone...wow - super pool of knowledge floating around here.decisions i have made based on all of your comments - and my subsequent research...dr b's just may not be for me...at least not in this water...i will try it again once we are back to our well...(which is not hard at all...we used it for a few years - and never had any issues...it is from a huge, clean aquafer pool up in the mountains...only problem we have is occasional sulpher - but not really much of an issue)baking soda is all i will be using for my main cleanser on hairgoing to try adding rosemary and tea tree drops today (no thyme at sprouts/whole foods)going to make a thyme tea spray to leave in (maybe tomorrow)i bought grandpa's (my hubby's favorite brand) baking soda soap too...coconut oil, palm oil, water, glycerin, baking soda...maybe for the rest of my skin.so vinegar - i still have not decided about acv rinse. i used white vinegar both times i did this so far. why ac instead of white? does it just strip your hair of any remains residues? is that the point? i am going to run to the store wuick....should i get the ac? or just use the whit ei have here?

DR B's & Greasy Question

Dread Maintenance

i use a bar - so not much help here. when i do use the tea tree dr b's - i use 2-3 drops for my whole head - and let the water take it from my fingers to my head - so sorta diluting - sorta not.on another note - has anyone thoroughly researched baking soda? seems that arm & hammer claims to be mining it out of wyoming...as soda ash. then it undergoes a seemingly harmless process to become what we lovingly use. however - it can also be made chemically. should we be worried about the possibility that arm&hammer is using the chemical verison rather than the mining version?

DR B's & Greasy Question

Dread Maintenance

Thanks for the reply. I do use the bar!!!! Ugh...maybe it is just me head...I wash every 2-3 days. Pretty much like before. I have never been a shower monger...I have done salt - but it seemed to kick start the oil...so I avoid it at all times now. If I was on the coast - I would just have to deal with the grease...I am so jealous you are headin to the beach...Again - thanks for the words...peace

DR B's & Greasy Question

Dread Maintenance

So - I have been using dr b's baby gentle formula (many allergies). I have been using a few drops of tea tree dr b's every other time I was too. I am also using baking soda.My hair sems to be getting really, really greasy. My head does get greasy in general - but only if I go 4-5 days without washing. But it is like 5x what I am used to right now. It is hot, nasty texas summertime (until we move back to CO in 2 weeks!!!!!).I just showered. I ran out of basking soda - so just soap today. After it dried a bit - I was seperating. my hands feel coated - and possibly smell like dr b's. cannot tell...maybe it's my imagination.Any advice????
