Any tips before getting dreadlocks?

General Talk

I think I know what you mean. If you mean like use no wax and gels like that then ill go that way, but if one of the adminstartors of the school tell me to cut them off I have to. It doesn't matter if I have freedom of speech, because my mom going to make me take them out and she has authority over me...so yeah. Natural dreadlocks or not. soaringeagle said:
whered u get thyat? thats propeganda straight from the prodsuct pushers
natural dreads are the best way to dread and under the law any dreads that are not naturral they can force u to cut but natural dreads are protected under freedom of religios ecxpression they cant even ask you to cuver them
they will dread as they grow so its not a sudden creazy change backcombing will make u look wild and crazy thats a fact
your hair will begin dreadinfg shoty most likewly and quick

odviosly u been readinhg the wrongt sitres most of the dreads around here are natural and nobody was kicked out odf school for it

Yeah, but they will look werid and my mom thinks about personal appearance and stuff and then I go to a charter school and they will probably barely let me wear dreads and them seeing my hair on what they would call "wild and out" will make them make me cut my hair of complete and not get any possible future dreads.

Ok I decided I want dreads because I want tobe different from people at school and i like the look of dreads. So right now my hair is not even close to being an afro. Its not even a centimeter. So how long (months to years) should I wait to get my hair high enough (in afro form) enough for dreads like his:
Or atleast get half the dreads he have. They say the hair grows about 1/2 inch a month and the mininum for getting dreads is 3 inches so thats 6 months of waiting. If it takes atleast 6 inches of hair to get half of his dreads than thats 12 months and I'll wait that long if I have to. But I really want those dreadlocks. Also since I have really curly hair (thats what my mother says) and im half Nigerian, half American, so what is the best method to get dreads (backcombing, twist and rip, etc). Thanks if you can help and im 13 years old going on 14.
