T&R Done- Now letting nature take over

Introduce Yourself

BEAUTIFUL!! I LOVE THEM! JESSICA EVA said:
yay! i completely finished mine today too!! we can watch the progress together! i washed them with baking soda, tea tree oil and peppermint oil just now. i'm going to put some aloe on them after they dry!

here they are all finished and put up earlier. i'm not sure how i feel about them, if they even look like dreadlocks or just hair that needs to be brushed, but oooh well!

T&R Done- Now letting nature take over

Just twist the ends around your fingers, thats what I did. But my curls are unruly and can't be controlled :)Got pics yet? Dana Harrison said:
I like the ends like that! I am TnRing right now and I was just lamenting the loss of many inches of hair because when I get to the ends there is so few hairs left that it balls up and is all frizzy. I think I am going to just let the rest of them be loose on the ends ( I have wavy/curls on the ends, too!) and just let them do their thing over time :) I think your ends look nicer than my frizzy hair ball ends for sure!

T&R Done- Now letting nature take over

I was thinking baking soda until I can get some tea tree oil and maybe lavender oil to add to it. Is that a good wash? I really have NO idea what Im doing but when I used BS yesterday, OMG I LOVED it. oPaulao said:
You can wash whenever you feel it's necessary. Start by washing one day after you think you should. like if tomorrow you feel like you should wash wait till the day after. then wait an extra day until you're down to washing 2-3 times a week. To avoid oiliness if that's an issue for you.

There should be no need for aloe unless your hair is super dry. and even then there are other things you could use since your hair is thin.

What are you gonna use to wash?

T&R Done- Now letting nature take over

See the little curls at the end? I was all wanting them gone, but now I think it's cute.A LITTLE thicker would be nice and if the root bases would loosen a tad to cover the scalp, other than that- they are PERFECT for me.A couple random questions, hate to bug when I know I could dig and find the answer- When can I wash them?- Can I get them wet right away or should they set for a bit?- When should I use aloe? oPaulao said:
Those will definitely get a little thicker...they look good!! :D

Dreading begins (again)

Introduce Yourself

Ok, so right now, I have my hair in 30 dime sized sections. I have 11 of them almost completely dreaded (T&R). My arms want to fall off- the ends are still about an inch and a half away from fully dreaded- but IDK, I might leave them that way. Each dread is quite small, a bit smaller than I would have liked but as I read so much that they will eventually fill out to be the size of the root base, I went as SE suggested with the dime- 1/4 inch sized base. (give or take here and there, I didn't want them all the same size) My husband sectioned it and he said he went where my hair wanted to section itself- he ACTUALLY SAID- "You're hair wants to dread, it's like it knows what to do". (Which is awesome, given than 4 days ago when I first started *and effed up* he was anti-dread!)So here are some of the starter pics and when I'm done, I will make an album of progress as they grow into what they're meant to be.(Sorry pics are so big- normally I would resize but honestly, just typing this is painful :) In a good way...Sectioning last night- elastics suck, I should have listened to that! Some hair left out for bangs- most of the got put into more dreads...

*Torchwood on the pc there for the geeks in here lol*

This is just a bit ago with the dreads started...

So? How do you all think it's going? I feel it's going well. Would LOVE it id hubs could get a dread that stayed in though :)

Thin hair and dreads?

Introduce Yourself

Sectioning still :) Poor husband is getting tired and they are a bit smaller (sectioned) than I would like, but we see this as a compromise. We are using small bands to section and tomorrow as I start each actual dread- I will take the band out and THEN dread.I also have to add that the baking soda wash was FABULOUS and I can't imagine ever washing my hair with anything else. My scalp felt amazing and my hair looked better than it ever has. I can't wait to try the other dread concoctions. Will add pics in a bit, if I make it up long enough :)

Thin hair and dreads?

Thanks Paula :) After I get them out (fingers crossed) I'm starting fresh with a bit more education than when I went in - thanks to you all. OPaulaO said:
definitely soak in conditioner. I undid a few of mine and all I had was shampoo and it still helped...but I wish I'd had some conditioner

After you've gotten them out you'll probably want to wash the hair to remove the conditioner though
