Ma Provence shampoo bar

Dread Products

Thanks for the reply, I really wasnt aware of these fancy-named chemicals (: I'll definitely check Clearly natural, and I've also heard that Lush's solid shampoos are good for the dreads (at least some, I know some are supposed to be conditioning). As for the dryness, which is currently not a big problem at all, but the occasional oiliness is more disturbing. I guess it's just the hair getting used to the whole new posture. I wash them twice a week, and i thougt that was a lot (until I've heard that a lot of people wash every single day, which to me seems like overdosing with washing and stripping away all the natural oils).

The frizzies aren't a "problem" at all, maybe the whole messyness and loops can at some moments be a little distracting. I really don't want to have the feeling that I need to hide them on more formal occasions, so I normally just let them be how they want to be, or put on a wrap.

Ma Provence shampoo bar

Dread Products

I had recently bought this bar shampoo and I am wondering if it is bad for my three month old dreads. I have used it twice and I used it with Dr. Bronners peppermint liquid shampoo just to minimize any negative effects it may have. I checked the ingredients today and i believe it's too conditioning since it said it contains shea butter. But I'm not an expert and I would need an advice or second opinion

(: i just hope i didn't get one of these products that are said to be so organic, eco.. and all these adjectives are added just in order to sell the product better. (sorry for my english, not my first language).

Ingredients:Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate,Sodium Coco-Sulfate,Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Starch,Cetearyl Alcohol, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Water*,Rhus Verniciflua Wax,Sodium Laurylsulfate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*,Cocamidopropyl Betaine,Aqua (Water), Coco-Glucoside,Montmorillonite,Parfum (Fragrance),Glycerin*,Lauryl Pca,Glyceryl Stearate, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Urtica Dioica Extract*,Citric Acid,Sodium Benzoate,Potassium Sorbate, Limonene,Eugenol,

And I would like to say hello, since I was lurking these forums for about a month and I decided to join the community. I must say I like the simple philosophy on dreads much more comforting and encouraging (especially during the struggles). I believe if I had written on many other forums that I don't like the way my dreads are being all frizzy and uncontrollable, people would suggest re-doing them with wax or by crocheting. But here I'd probably just be encouraged to be more patient and let them dread on their own.

It really is funny how over the years, normal becomes unnormal, weird and by some people even unnatural/unnormal. (dreadlocks being the natural state of hair)

Shampoos and Soaps ~ Maybe get a list started

Dread Maintenance

If you have hard water i would definitely suggest Lush shampoo bars. Just watch out for those with hair detangling effect, the salesperson should know all about it.

But if you don't have hard water i believe better solution is baking soda, since it's all natural and cheaper as well (: good luck!

Shampoos and Soaps ~ Maybe get a list started

Dread Maintenance

I have tried Lush's solid shampoo puck called Squeaky green just a few days ago. We have hard water and i was almost desperately looking for something that wouldn't leave gunky stuff on my scalp and clean it really nice. I've found that in Squeaky green, and it smells really nice and herbaly. Their shampoos are a bit pricey (they vary from 5-8 euros), but the saleswoman have told me that one shampoo puck usually lasts as long as three normal bottles of liquid shampoo, so the price isn't that exaggarated. After one use, one can barely see that it has been used. Though it lathered really nicely.

Which brings me to the one really negative point in deciding to buy this product. It's SLS, sodium laureth sulphate, it's a detergent used for cleaning floor and other surfaces... also put in most shampoos, tooth pastes and other body cosmetics. It is said to cause cancer.

Though i will keep using it, because it makes my scalp really clean and good smelling. At least until i get a water softener.
